Scotch Whisky Auctions Ltd

Postby toshie » 24 Mar 2011, 18:46

Hi folks. I'm delighted to announce that Scotch Whisky Auctions will be holding its inaugural auction beginning Saturday, April 2, and running for four weeks. This is a new company, but the people behind it have been floating around whisky for a long time.
I'm Bill Mackintosh, chairman of Glasgow's Whisky Club and a director (along with Mark Connelly of this parish) of Glasgow's Whisky Festival, which some of you might have attended last November. It was a sell-out success, and this year's is heading the same way.
My business partner is Tam Gardiner, who runs Tam's Drams, a specialist whisky shop in Glasgow. He has long experience in collecting old and rare whiskies.
We plan to offer a safe, secure and enjoyable experience for a price well below the current auction houses McTear's and Bonhams. The first couple of auctions will charge sellers 10% of the hammer price, plus £2 per item offered.
There will be no buyer's premium. Successful purchasers (UK only) will be charged postage. Feel free to pop over to http://www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com and have a look. If you have anything you'd like to put in the sale, drop us a line a mail@scotchwhiskyauctions.com
Thanks for your time.

Sounds like a good deal Bill. I hope it takes off like a rocket.

Well, for one, shipping costs from the UK are horrendous compared to shipping costs to the UK from, for example, Germany

Thanks to everyone. Reason for UK only is: we need to walk before we run and the costs are very high to Europe. There are also problems getting booze into some countries. But if you win a lot, we'll keep it safe until you pop over for a visit!

Hi gang. Just a wee gentle reminder that scotchwhiskyauctions.com goes live tomorrow (Sat, April 2) and runs for four weeks. We're still talking to courier companies (they take forever to get back to you) but we'll let you know in plenty of time what postage charges will be.
Thanks

I asked Tam about that very same issue last weekend, and his reply was that he doesn't plan to announce a set finishing time, and will end it at random. This is to avoid "bid sniping", as it is something he isn't particularly fond of.

Given that you can enter a maximal preferred bid and the site will auto-bid for you up to that value, I don't consider this particularly unfair.

Cheers for the info. I'll get my maximum bids in early as i am bound to forget about it nearer the time!

I used the "contact us" to tell them the pictures of the Aberlour Antique and 1990 vintage were transposed.
They didn't bother to acknowledge, or act on, the information

Do all the bottles end at the same time? If one was to lose out on a bottle it would be a shame not to go for another. Or even to bid on six bottles hoping to win a couple, only to find you won all six. :-o
