There seems to be yet again a little bit of a hiccup at the Scotch Whisky Auctions site :roll: . This afternoon I received an email saying that I’d won a bottle that I was bidding for, only to get another message ten minutes later to say there had been a cock-up with the computer which had prematurely closed the auction :x and then to cap it all to be out bided :evil: . I am beginning to lose confidence in this auction site and will think twice before biding there again.

I'm guessing that the clocks going back had something to do with it.

But it probably would be a good idea to have a fixed closing time, not somewhere between 6pm and 9pm or whatever.

In fairness there were only a couple of minutes between the congratulations you've won email and the sorry you can keep bidding email. I've seen bigger problems caused by clocks changing at a major high street retailer so it does happen. I'd forgive them this one!

A million apologies. An error in the programming language confused the software. We did get back up as soon as humanly possible, but I'm sorry if people missed out.

Just to add a positive, I won the two lots I was bidding for and didn't have any problems. Got one email to notify of the result and when I went to the website my basket was still empty. Received another email about 10 minutes later and this time managed to go ahead, pay for the items and that was it. Now looking forward to getting the 'good stuff'.

Is there any way for us to know when the items have been shipped and when we can expect to receive them?

Hmmm, I'm afraid I haven't got the email actually. I did get the items on Thursday, thanks for that, but I never got an automated message to notify that they were being dispatched.

Ends today (Sunday), at some random time in the evening. So, get bidding and secure those Christmas pressies (for yourselves of course).

Signature "Ben Wyvis 1968" miniature - sadly not mine - just went for £250. That's an eye-watering £50 per 1cl.
Unbelievable.

Anyone know who won the Nikka Coffey bottling, I forgot to bid.

Anyone want to donate that bottle to a tasting?

Clumsy me!

A seller's perspective. A comparison with E-Bay.

NEGATIVES of SWA

- Have to fund postage to get lots to Glasgow;
- Three to four weeks wait for payment.

POSITIVES OF SWA

- Not having to answer potential buyers' questions;
- Not having to photograph items;
- Not having to write descriptions of items;
- Hammer prices are excellent!!!!
- Fixed price for reserve (£4).

If you're not cash-strapped and are happy waiting a while for your ill-gotten gains, SWA knocks spots off E-Bay any day of the week.

Can anyone give a similar buyer's perspective?

Can't compare to Ebay as I avoid on grounds of provenance and risk. Having said that I find SWA to be excellent - bought about half a dozen so far and been happy with what I paid and found getting the product to be quick and efficient both delivery and collection. My last purchase arrived only 2 days after I made payment. Can't fault them with exception of delivery cost which - at £9 - is a little steep in my humble opinion.

I've bought a handful of expressions from E-Bay - and most of them were from retailers with e-shops. Over several years, I've also jettisoned about two dozen bottles via E-Bay. Buyers quite rightly asked about provenance, which I was happy to provide (eg copy till receipts). I had no complaints from any buyer, but can readily understand why people are wary.

Having discovered SWA, I won't use E-Bay again to sell though. As to buying, I'm finding that I'm more and more using just three or four retailers. I know them, they know me. It works!

The longer the delay the better for my bank account - promised myself I would try and spend very little on whisky in January! :lol:

We went live last night folks. JAB is right, a late rush of bottles, including a tasty Glenfiddich 40 and a pair of rather nice Balvenies.

I know this is an old post, but still...

The one main problem with eBay is that if a buyer decides to complain eBay almost always sides with the buyer. The only safe way to sell anything on eBay is if you only accept buyers who will pay for insured shipping, which is onluy worth if for very expensive items.
