Isle of Jura's First Diurach's Bottling

Postby conbert » 21 Feb 2012, 23:49

I've registered interest in this bottle, which is currently maturing in a grand crus classe cask. Has anyone else registered interest and does anyone have any interest in it? Does anyone know if it will turn out to be a good one? Will it be collectable? I'm doubting this due to many distilleries looking to do similar in the future.

I've already got my bottle of The Balvenie Craftman's Reserve on the way......Starting to think there is a theme running here in the industry, but in a way I don't care if I can get hold of bottles like these for £60 -£80 and I find they are of a very good quality and cask strength. These are bottles I will keep for special occassions :P

Thoughts and opinions?

I was tempted, but was put off by the whole secrecy around it. The only other boutique barrel on their website, the 93 was going for £77. Which gave me the indication of what it would probably be priced at. Out of interest, how much is it going for?

At that price (or less even), I'll hunt down a bottle of the 18 year old, which I think is a magnificent whisky, rather than take a punt on an unknown.

It's £75, so you were spot on with that. I believe there is a tasting tonight, which is online.

Will have to consider the 18 then at some point. I've only ever tried the 10 year old and it was very uneventful!

I have a bottle of this allocated to me, which I am very pleased about. It's part of Jura's 'Boutique Barrels' range which are excellent malts, especially the JO Bourbon cask.

Jura is the 10th biggest selling whisky in the world, but is often panned by the self appointed experts due to the 10yo being pretty poor(which it is). Jura needs more time in the cask than many other whiskies, and the older expressions are in a different league altogether from the 10yo. I believe one of the highest marks awarded by Ralfy in his video reviews, if not THE highest, was from a Jura.

As well as the Boutique Barrels, the Prophesy is also a cracking dram and well worth seeking out.

High mark yes (92/100 for a 15yo single cask) but he has given a few other 92's and at least 2 others higher than 92

Thanks for that. I couldn't remember exactly, but I knew that there weren't too many he rated as highly. I recall he was especially gushing about it!!

Its never struck me as poor, just too young. Jura seems to open up with time. The 10 is just closed, its underlying flavouring havent opened up yet.

It's here and it's limited to 295 bottles. I've ordered one!

Who else has one on order?

I've got mine ordered  Looking forward to it.

Just a quick heads up for DavidUK. I was told I had one reserved for me too. But the e-mail I got today gave me the impression that it was first come first served, so I ordered straight away.

Interesting that you say that about age and Jura's. I'd all but given up on Jura after trying it at 10, 16,superstition ,old 10etc. The best two I've had were an OMC 25 which was largely down to a good sherry cask and an old Jura 8 which seemed older than stated.I'll have to try some older Juras.

I'm registered as a Juirach and have been for some time. If it hasn't sold through, how do I get this bottle please?

Exciseman.... Here's the link:

I've been greedy and grabbed two... one to drink, and one to pop in my cupboard... who knows, one day it might make me a tenner.

Cheers,

Steve
