I hate making grammatical errors like that :( I'm going to change it, but the horrible truth will be preserved in your quote :)

Depends how much you can get it for .....

For me it does not represent good value at all ....

It costs the equivalent of circa £22.50 here in Ireland but I'm not the greatest fan either. I'd prefer to stump up the extra for Blackbush or Jameson 12yo

I think it's fine for a blend, and would tend to have it in the pub here over say a Grouse or Bells. As for JM's rating... well :|

Adrian, it's <£15 here and the 12yo and Black Bush (which I find to be great value but I'm stocking up as it's getting a Diageo overhaul next year) for a few pounds more. I can see why you guys go on a raid up north from time to time.

Why is whiskey so expensive in the south comparatively, is it the tax? The last couple of times I've flown back from Ireland (earlier this year) I noticed that even tax/duty free was expensive.

I'm not sure it's fair to describe Jameson as "fine for a blend". In the Scotch context, blend means a whisky with malt and grain whisky, as distinct from a whisky that is (usually) all malt. In the Irish context, blend really just means whiskey - and Jameson is a good one. I particularly like its metallic tang.

Agreed with both of these points although if I want a shot at a bar, the regular Jameson's seems tempting.

I like standard Jameson. It's grand. I don't think I ever have a bottle of it at home, though. I prefer Powers, personally. Jameson is very approachable.

Sorry for a reply 4 months later  been busy doing our own stuff for te Irish Whiskey Society.

The Vat and Duty rates are actually very similar in Ireland as it is in the UK. I think about 10.50Euro is duty on any 40% whiskey then Tax is 21.5% as opposed to circa 17.5% in the UK so eventhough less not 10Euro less and I've been told by a retailer that they only make about a couple euro profit on a bottle of Jameson.

I have come to te conclusion that IDL just plainly charge us more for the pleasure of drinking our national spirit than say they charge UK distributors or in Europe or the US for that matter.

The Irish market has very little in the way of competition so they charge what they think they can get away with rather than a competitive price  .
