Mortlach 16yo Flora & Fauna

Nose: Tangerine marmalade. Cream, bitter chocolate and candlewax. Old rubber coated electric cables. Cold tea.
Palate: Burnt oranges, peppery wood, tobacco
Finish: medium length, drying wood.

The dram seems woodier tonight than it normally does. Maybe something to do with the sampling I did earlier.

Mortlach, 16y, F&F, 43%

Nose: Sherry, wood, and raisins.

Palate: Sherry and wood come to the fore, but there is also a presence almost of tangerine zest. The finish is short as it quickly fades.

Overall Impression: A flavoursome dram, albeit with a weak and short finish.

Strange that I am the only one who finds the finish short. My bottle has been open a while now and maybe this has something to do with it?
Although, on my third and fourth drinks, I found it lingering more than on the first couple.

Nope, the first thing I said about this dram is the short finish. It's like you get the wonderful flavour and then someone whips it away before you get too much of a good thing. And I love it for that.

Colour: Rusty amber. A hint of ruby.

Nose: Musty, dried fruits. Raisins, sultanas, dates. A hint of wood spice lurking underneath. A little touch of citrus underneath. Marmalade. Some more woodiness. A burnt sweetness (caramel?).

Mouth: Oily and creamy. Fizzy, pepper spice at the front and some chocolate bitterness at the back. Lovely. Nicely balanced and covers the tongue and mouth well. Juicy and mouthwatering too.

Finish: Fruity but dry. Lots of wood spice and a touch of ash/soot at the back. Pretty short finish which I like in a dram this sweet. Too much sweetness ends up a bit sickening but this knows when to stop.

Comments: A lovely, every day drinking dram. Fairly light and pleasant and I'd love to try it at full strength. I'm wondering how much has been taken out or added, though, as it seems a little thin and watery at times with a possible hint of the dreaded caramel. Full strength with nothing added or removed and this would be a cracker.
