17yo 46% - Old Pulteney

Tasted: 28/03/2009
Colour: Chestnut
Nose: A blast of fresh sea air followed by an attractive malt-husk smell. Some citrus too and a hint of carnations
Palate: rush of citrus, then a big salty hit, a little malty toffee peeks in, but is quickly submerged beneath the spices.
Finish: Some drying oak but it loses out to the malt, which gets your juices flowing. Wonderful interplay between the citrus and the salt.
Comment: Really lovely stuff. It's a while since I had an open bottle of this, but I opened one last night and I'm so glad I did. This won't last long.

Nose: Much less ozone than the 12 though it's still there. Rather more toffee - maybe more like peanut brittle than toffee as such.
Still something floral about it too.

Palate: More of the lemon and then a big hit of malt. Some oaky spice starts to appear.

Finish: Lots more of the spice develops and malt coats the back of the palate. Nice sweet finish - doesn't have the bitterness of the latest 12
