L6 bottling

Nose: Gently sherried. Seafood and a little brine, hot sand and seaweed. Gently oaky, smoky and peaty. Something almost creosote-like appears after a few seconds. Tabasco sauce. Lemony, but more like Jif lemon juice rather than the real deal.

Palate: A little fishy again. Quite dry and peaty, with a little smoke wafting in and out. Gentle notes of fish sprinkled with salt and a good dose of pepper. Also a delicate layer of sherry.

Finish: Quite smoky, a little woody and lightly peppered. Sherry makes itself known shortly after, which lingers and is joined by citrus and hints of Tabasco sauce and dark chocolate.

The nose conjures up images of sitting on a newly-painted bench on the seafront on a cold, breezy day, but the main reason I love this whisky is for the notes of Tabasco sauce and the lemon that seems to run throughout. I'd happily recommend this to anyone!

10yo 45.8% - Talisker

Tasted: 08/04/2009
Colour: Amber
Nose: Oranges, pears, iodine, malty, slightly fishy, salty, caramel.
Palate: Tar, salt, seaweed, sulphury compounds (non-cask related) and caramel.
Finish: Long, peppery sweetness.
Comment: the caramel is evident but it’s still a great malt whisky.

Hi all

Whisky beginner here, and newcomer to this site. Glad to be here!

My untutored reaction to Talisker 10 yo

Glass:
Glencairn

Water:
Little splash of springwater

Colour:
Gold (this whisky is caramelised and chillfiltered)

Body:
Oily - turpentine-like

Nose:
Grass cuttings, nutshells, smoke, oyster shells, fish scales, brine, wet sea sand, old fishing boats, white pepper

Taste:
Peat! Smoke - fish, white pepper and salt, making this dram oddly mouthwatering, like a seafood restaurant at night

Finish;
White pepper forever!

Comments:
My favourite whisky so far, responsible for my conversion to scotch drinking! Delicious and appetising.
O Great Sun Disc
Thou art very great.
Thou art robed in power
and in majesty.
Thou goest down
and it is night.

I have only tasted Talisker 10yr once before, but that was at a cigar bar after a dram or two, so it wasn't really a fair taste. I stumbled across a Talisker three pack of 20cl bottles: 10yr, '93 Distiller's Edition, and 18yr. I am really excited about tasting these whiskies, as Talisker is a real crowd favorite.

Talisker 10yr is bottled at 45.8% ABV.

Nose: Lots of smoke and sea air, mixed with a little seaweed and brine. There is a bit of a tangy fruit aroma, like an unripe pear, or unripe green grapes.

Palate: Very engaging mouth feel, with plenty of peppery spice and tanginess. A bit of sea salt as well.

Finish: Long finish with lots of hot pepper. Plenty of tangy smoke coming out.

This is very tasty. The tanginess is pretty powerful, bringing in a great flavor to balance the pepper and smoke. The going rate for Talisker 10yr around here is $60, and I would say that even though $60 is a bit high for a 10yr, this one is well worth the going rate.

Nose: Lemon, kippers, white pepper, salty, cut grass, new oak wood, smoky soot.

Palate: white pepper, soft soot, some zingy lemon soaked oak, white fish(not oily), salty

Nose – Gentle nose, peat smoke and saltiness, smoked kippers, musty leather and wood shavings, some oak and vanilla notes.

Palate – Pleasing initial sweetness, followed by a rolling flow of peat smoke over the tongue, salt spray and seaweed, some sharp citrus notes and warming peppery kick.

Finish – Maintains the pepper and smoke with a long, warming finish, with some bitter oak notes remaining.

The fishy, maritime character, the rolling peat smokiness and pepper bite make this very distinctive and enjoyable. Also responsible for my conversion to Scotch, and for that reason it will always hold a special place in my heart.
