OB Flora and Fauna 10yo 43% - Teaninich

OB Flora and Fauna 10yo 43% - Teaninich

Postby Malt-Teaser » 17 Dec 2008, 00:24

Teaninich 10y, F&F, 43%

Glass:
Spiegelau

Nose: This is where it gets difficult. I detect a complex mixture of Savlon & Germolene (for those who don't know, these are antiseptic skin creams), with hints of hazelnuts and popcorn smothering a fresh alpine meadow.

Palate: The initial experience was one of slight sourness with some fresh herbal notes. Strange, very strange. This is quite tart and, to borrow a para-phrase from a well-known Galactical hitch-hiker 'it almost completely fails to arouse the senses'.

Overall impression: A total disappointment. As I have tasted this before and enjyoed it, I expected more and will have to go back to the original bottle to see if my sample was somehow corrupted.

Re: 10yo F&F 43% - Teaninich

Yesterday evening I revisited that Teaninich and it really wasn't so bad this time around. There must have been something wrong with me, or my palate, on the previous tasting.
I still wouldn't describe it as fantastic or a 'great', but it was pleasant enough and left a better impression.

Re: 10yo F&F 43% - Teaninich

I have tasted most of the F&F's - including Teaninich. I think all the ones I have tasted, except Mortlach, Bladnoch and Rosebank are below standard of what one could expect. We visited 5 UDV/J&B distilleries at this years Spirit of Speyside Festival - Strathmill, Auchroisk, Glen Elgin, Glenlossie and Mannochmore. It was ok to visit these "factories", but the whisky served was plain dull and uninteresting. In fact, I think they could have swapped them all without anyone noticing.
Apparently, these F&F's are quite interesting for collectors. I guess the packaging is more interesting than the content. ;)

I don't think it's dire.
Very maltyy, which I like, A bit spicy but nothing particularly distinctive, unfortunately.

Quite light and a little fruity.

Not great but on a summer evening at the bottom of the garden, swinging in the hammock and looking out over the Chelmer Valley ... well it may be a different story.
