Johnnie Walker Double Black

Johnnie Walker Double Black

Postby Johnny Murgatroyd » 08 Dec 2011, 10:49

A whisky designed for airports. Then released widely in some jurisdictions. I do like the Black Label proper, so when I got the chance to get the Double Black cheap, who was I to pass up?

Glass:
Glencairn

Water:
None

Colour:
Dark (caramelised)

Body:
Medium

Nose:
This is no Black Label. I am a bit disappointed. Very shy nose at first, then deeper sniffing dredges up thick syrup. The grounds of sweet black coffee when the cup is dried out and sticky. Leather, black chocolate, oversoaked glacee cherries. On deeper sniffing, flickers of smoke.

I suspect "glassing". Leaving it to breathe for a bit.

Now more like old tweed, fabric softener (!) and a worn, dirty coffee machine.

Taste:
Like the nose.

Finish:
Not much of a one. Coffee grounds and wood.

Meh. :|

I'll report later if the whisky improves.

Thou goest down

No improvement. A lonely, bitter old dram. I'm going to avoid this in future

Well seeing I think poorly of the regular JW Black I can only assume this is twice as bad ;)
