Port Askaig 17yo - Speciality Drinks - 45.8%
Colour: Straw - pale gold.
Nose: Deliciously balanced sweet peat and smoke. Herbal notes and cut grass emerge. Wood ash and sea air. Some lemongrass. Very fresh. Perhaps a younger nose than you would expect from a 17yo. Vanilla in the background.
Mouth: Tangy orange and honey. Lemon cake. A touch of grapefruit. Sweet and juicy. Then some bitter chocolate makes an appearance.
Finish: Long and lucious. Goes on for ever. Citrus and brown sugar. Lemony. A little bitter and vegetal at the end. A hint of bitter chocolate.
Comments: A superb dram. I like this a lot. Exactly what I want from an Islay malt. I could easily drink this all night. Yum. Very Ardbeg-like but given the name it must be a Caol Ila.
