Smokehead 43%

Smokehead 43%

Postby brendram » 15 Aug 2010, 19:35

Colour: Pale gold, doesn't look like a case of colour added.

Nose: Sweet, smoke, ash, fruit, slight mintyness

Palate: Clean, fresh, spicy, peat, some smoke, Germoline

Finish: As expected, peat, some smoke and green apples, some pear

Comment: A bottle you could kill in an evening, dangerously drinkable but also fairly simple. A decent dram at a very decent price. Reminds me of Kilchoman but I think this is young Caol Ila.

Ian Macleod's Smokehead 43% ~ Ardbeg 6yo

Postby JayDie » 15 Aug 2010, 20:14

Great stuff! It's an expression of Ian Macleod. I've heard it's a 6yo Ardbeg...

The argument against it (that someone else made and I find convincing), is that Ardbeg is so popular these days and they'd rather slap together another Rollercoaster or whatever and charge a nice sum than sell it noname.

Think you are bang on there bren.

No messing just gets on with being crisp and smoky.
Had heard that Ardbeg were trying to buy back casks but that in itself could be a red herring. Young Caol ila if you ask me.
