Hello all I'm new here. I'm a Glaswegian comedian who loves whisky and wants everyone else to love it too.

As you can see I'm doing a show at the Edinburgh Fringe. I did it at Australia's Adelaide Fringe earlier this year... it got rave reviews.

As the title suggests it's aimed at those who don't know much about whisky, however there should be lots of knowing giggles (and the odd interesting dram or 2) for those who are knowledgable.

For tickets please visit http://www.edfringe.com/whats-on/comedy ... ir-dummies

Hopefully see you in August.

Here's a couple of the reviews.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I'll pop into your respective establishments the week after next when the posters / flyers are back from the printers.

Ticket sales are going nicely so we should have some fun.

NIck - - I've been asked to take the show to Melbourne Comedy Festival next year. So hopefully see you there.

Press Release: Edinburgh Festival Fringe show

Alan Anderson : Whisky Fir Dummies

Venue: Just The Tonic @ The Tron (Venue 51) Hunter Square, Edinburgh
Time: 9pm (55mins)
Dates: 4th - 28th August

'Impressive... amusing... bargain of a night out'
Adelaide Advertiser

‘Hilarious... not just for whisky drinkers’
Talkfringe.com

Glaswegian comedian Alan Anderson loves Single Malt Scotch Whisky and he wants you to love it too. Anderson is trying to dispel the stereotype of the cheap Scot by giving away high quality booze. During his show there are six whiskies to be tasted and many laughs to be had.

A former architect, DJ and tour guide, Alan Anderson has been one of the most in-demand comedians in Scotland for over a decade, with six years of sell out shows at the Glasgow
Comedy Festival. Whisky Fir Dummies is his Edinburgh Fringe debut.

Whisky Fir Dummies premiered at Australia’s Adelaide Fringe Festival in February 2011. Alan Anderson performed Whisky Fir Dummies for 18 nights, receiving rave reviews and sell out audiences... probably something to do with the free whisky he hands out during the show to his favourite audience members.

There is no denying that Scotland has a drink problem. That problem is that too many Scots drink poor quality cheap alcohol such as alcopops, methadone and Buckfast. Whisky however is Scotland’s greatest export, 2010 was a record year with over £3Billion’s worth of Scotch being exported around the world. This helped HMRC rake in over £1Billion in tax. Anderson asks what whisky - compared to golf, Sean Connery or Nessie - says about the Scots, and will minimum pricing kill the golden goose?

Hae a dram, some cheeky banter and learn about Scotland's greatest export with Glaswegian comedian Alan Anderson. Every show a new, unique whisky sodden tale.

‘delivered in boisterous and friendly manner... Anderson educates his audience... keeping them rolling with laughter.... a warm and hilarious get-together.' Chortle

‘Excellent show. Excellent whisky. Excellent chat.’ Talkfringe.com

'Scottish Comedy Veteran' Daily Record

‘Festival institution’ Evening Times

‘There was whisky to be had. And laughs too, of which there were many.
I can find no other way to describe Whisky Fir Dummies other than to say that it is the best way to have a dram of whisky in a room with strangers. ’
Adelaide Art Beat

It's still a secret, but over the past week the Scottish Whisky industry have shown their support of the show big stylee, by donating 40 bottles, glasses, miniatures, a bottle of raw spirit, barley and in the case of the Whiski Rooms allowing us to film our regular fringe vodcast in their tasting room - and give our interviewees a free dram each.

So far thanks to Morrison Bowmore, Douglas Laing, Diagio, Arran, Springbank, Edrington Group, Tam's Drams, Good Spirit co, Royal Mile Whiskies, Whiski Rooms.

An even bigger thanks to The Times, Scotsman, Metro, Daily Record, Reporting Scotland and Radio 4 for getting on their high horse and helping punt tickets.

Saw that in the Metro yesterday. Got to laugh...I think more booze is consumed due to Orange Walks than the whole of the Fringe events put together.

Just got back home after first show. It was 5 short of a sell out. I was a wee bit rusty with my delivery, but it was bloody good fun. Here's to another 23 like that.

Hello to all the whiskywhiskywhisky forumites I met at the show and at Whisky Fringe over the weekend.

The first weekend has be a triumphant success with Friday and Saturday sold out and Sunday packed too. Monday only has 10 tickets left and Tuesday about 20.

Even better another 18 bottles were picked up at the end of Whisky Fringe - with more promised from those who ran out. Big thanks to Neil at RMW for allowing me to flyer everyone over the weekend. Tullibardine, Bruichladdie, Burns Stewart, Cooley and Glengoyne were particularly generous. However a special shout to the guys at Dewars for their lovely double aged 18yr old, and to Jamie at Glenfiddich who who came up trumps with a bottle of 21yr old Gran Reserve and Eau de Robidou.

We went to see Alan at the Tron last night. He was very funny (particularly when he kept picking on my mate "Gery fae Carntyne" for a lot of the evening!) and is obviously very passionate about whisky. The show is pretty good, covers whisky basics and Alan encourages the audience just to go out and try it.

I was there with 4 friends ... 2 whisky enthusiasts and 2 of my neighbours who were just out for a laugh ... we went down to the Whiski Bar afterwards and my neighbours ended up being pretty enthusiastic about their drams and the range for flavours / tastes available.

If anyone has the chance to go I recommend you grab a ticket before they're sold out.

I'd just like to add a bit to Treeb's comments above. Non-pc, some of it in questionable taste, but so very, very funny. And Alan gave, in my opinion, one of the best (and definitely the most entertaining) explanations of how whisky is made - and I've been to several distillery tours and tastings.
Oh, one other thing. The nonsense that the media has been stirring up about too many Fringe shows encouraging people to drink alcohol does NOT apply to this show. Or if it does, then it applies to all distillery tours and tastings. It's just a (hugely) entertaining education in the history of whisky, how it is made, and things to look out for. The folk at the front who were picked on thoroughly deserved their drams (especially Gery).
Highly recommended.

Thanks for the nice reviews.

That's the first week of shows completed and 5 out the 7 sold out... only 17 more gigs to go.

Tonight's audience were uber reserved. Turned out 50% work in the Glenmorangie marketing dept and of the rest 1 couple were in corporate affairs at Johnnie Walker and another was from Glenkinchie. Eeeek
