Glenfiddich is auctioning one of its rarest-ever whiskies

Postby GlenfiddichUK » 31 Jan 2012, 00:28

On Friday 10th February Glenfiddich is holding an exclusive charity auction of one of its rarest ever single malt Scotch whiskies, the 55 year old Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve.

Only 11 bottles of this 55 year old single malt Scotch whisky will ever be released to the public in honour of Janet Sheed Roberts, who at 110 years old is the oldest living person in Scotland and also the granddaughter of William Grant – founder of the Glenfiddich distillery.

The auction, led by Christie’s auctioneer James Bruce-Gardyne, will see bottle No.2 released to the public, with all proceeds from this sale going to Walking With The Wounded (Glenfiddich is sponsoring the charity's next major fundraising challenge in which a team of 5 wounded British servicemen will attempt to summit Mount Everest). Each bottle is hand-numbered and bottle No.1 was auctioned at Bonham's in Edinburgh with a final auction price of £46,850, breaking the world record for the most expensive single malt Scotch whisky sold at auction.

Prior to the auction, guests will hear from a selection of inspiring people, including: Private Jaco van Gass, one of the wounded servicemen embarking on the Everest Expedition; Edward Parker, co-founder of Walking With The Wounded; Peter Gordon, Glenfiddich chairman and great-nephew of Janet Sheed Roberts; and Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich Malt Master and the man behind the Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve.

As this is a private, by invitation only event, if you are interested in bidding for the 55YO either in person or by phone, please email glenfiddich@wwtw.org.uk or call +44 (0)20 7632 4827 for further information. The event itself is taking place in London, in the UK.
