Cutty Sark 25:

This reminds me alot of Macallan in that its bold, beefy and sherried. It has a caramel-ly character as opposed to Macallans spicy characteristic but it is a big whisky.

Just cracked open a bottle of Kilchoman Sherry Cask Release to help alleviate the horror of the paperwork I'm wading through today.

I got to try this whisky in Australia at the Brisbane Whisky Expo in February. I liked it a great deal then, so it was nice to see it sitting on shelves when I got to London.

Since the end of April, I have opened:

George T. Stagg (2011 edition) 71.3% - to celebrate the birthday of the good friend who travelled from the US to Ontario, in part, to trade this bottle to me.

McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt, Batch W11-01, bottled 20/6/2011 42.5% and Talisker 18 - opened and shared with my dad and his wife who acquired these bottles in Kentucky for me last month.
The wishlist is always growing...

One I'm pretty sure no one else has...

It's called McKenzie Pure Pot Still and it was made by a new distillery in the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY. Appropriately, the distillery is called Finger Lakes Distilling. I have to say, this is a very young whiskey. It noses remarkably green and fresh, probably due to the 80% unmalted component and the small amount of time in wood. There's a trace of honey. The palate matches the nose, but with some light oak woodyness. Some English Breakfast tea shows up over time. Overall it's quite simple and smooth, but it I appreciate that it's from an atypical region and think that with added maturity it has real potential.

PS The gin this distillery makes (from grapes!) is excellent, btw.

Justopeneda Glenmo Original. I toyed with opening a pretty old Glenmo 10 but decided I know and like the Original and that's what I wanted tonight (too much peat recently).
For a standard mass bottling I really like this

Whisky Lounge Cragganmore 1989 20 yr old 53.5% - 20cl bottle picked up at tasting on Wednesday in Leeds. A bit steep price wise at £24.95 - less £5 voucher. Apparently a cask share with BBR so will be looking tom pick up a full size bottle of this from BBR.

Last Thursday was the opening of my wife's wedding anniversary gift to me, the Auchentoshan Valinch. She bought it in April, just in case the LCBO allocation (I think it was about 600) ran out. It is now down to 48 bottles. I have commented elsewhere about the Valinch...it will be a great summer dram that I will experiment with further, with water.

McLeod's single grain 12 yo

Spotted this one on the shelves. First single grain I have spotted in Finland so far, needless to say I was excited and it only cost 32e! First nose was very cereal and fullgrainy with touch of sweet solventiness, definetly something else going on than usual blend or single malt. Stantard palate and easy going, I hope they do get some older and more idenifyable single grains here, not much information on this one.
We are only going to regret things we didn't do... So do it!
