These boxed bottles of "Century" are $69.99....(similar price to Springbank 15 or Glendronach 15 around here)...
I think this store's stock is from around the year 2000...I'm for sure going back for the Glenfiddich "Pure Malt" liters they have....not sure if the older Cutty, Black&White, White Horse, Isle of Jura and aforementioned J&B select are worth getting- need to take a closer look....

At the other end of the scale admittedly I had one of the G&M 40 yr olds a few months back. Might have been the occassion as we opened it after a dinner to wish farewell to friends who were moving to Toronto but we nailed the bottle in one sitting between four of us and found the whisky very balanced and drinkable!!

Im sure mine wasnt the finet example.Never a lot of it about so either the blenders love it or it's not generally considered that saleable as a single. I'm sure someone like Tattie reckons it tastes very vegetal(cauliflower?) As I said one of those I'm in no postion to have a handle on . Hence I'll be interested to see what you guys think should you pull the trigger

Just had a browse through the tasting notes - mixed bag - but Nick B certainly mentions cauliflower. Still tempted though and it's under £40 so might go for it anyway. I'll let you know.

I've been buying some older whiskies lately (Talisker 25, Caol Ila 28, Bowmore 28) and thinking of taking the plunge on a bottle of Brora 30.

Lochside 1981 BBR for royal mile whiskies

Anyone who tried this one? Can I possibly go wrong with this purchase?
1981 is a great vintage for Lochside anyway, and the other Berry Bros Lochside bottlings seem to get good reviews...

I've quite a number of Lochsides in my collection and never been disappointed with any that I've drunk. Combination of BBR quality and Lochside I'd say was quite a safe bet!

Get it, get it, get it you won't regret it. I've got an 81 open from them like drinking grapefruit juice the only way to describe it IMO.

Alright! I'll let you know if I pulled the trigger. I'm not really used to buy whiskies over €100 so now I'll ponder a bit over my decision ;)

Some realm of old Caol Ila... Sadly Port Ellens are FAR out of my price range and we don't get much other than official releases here in the states... and from what a few have said, an old Caol Ila is probably is as close as I'll get... Any suggestions in particular from anyone?

Highland Park 15... it's quickly disappearing yes, and the bottles aren't terribly rare down here and not a bad price in my book.

Also and A.D. Rattray I saw at a local store... 1990 Auchentoshan 20 Year old... not much on the web tasting note wise and the official tasting notes follow most Auchentoshans...
