Gulp. A bit on the expensive side.

Just a bit!

I'm thinking of any kind of Amrut... what's a good start, people?

now that my order has been processed (the universe always responds to whining) this is what i got:

the nectar of the daily drams laphroaig 11 sherry that bpbleus recommended
laga 12, friends of the classic malts
bowmore 14, berry bros.
caol ila cs
the twe amrut
glendronach revival (easily available in the u.s but since it's actually cheaper to have it shipped from the u.k i decided to add it to this order).

and with this i will be done with purchasing whisky bottles and decanters for this year. i'm hoping the package will make it through without problems yet again: i am a little nervous that there may be greater attention paid to all packages post last week's scares.

Well yes. That's the good thing and the bad thing about these forumss.
You learn a lot and hear about the delicious bottles out there, but it means you spend more than you would otherwise

Forums wil be the ruin of me :D

Ichiro's Malt Queen Of Spades 53.1%
Ichiro's Malt Jack Of Hearts 56.1%
Ichiro's Malt Quercus Mongolica Blended Malt 61.2%
Ichiro's Malt Wine Wood Reserve 46%
Ichiro's Malt Mizunara Wood Reserve 46%
Suntory Owners Cask Hakushu White Oak 1997 11YO 58%
Suntory Owners Cask Yamazaki Bota Corta 1999 9YO 56%
Hibiki 21

All of these are going to cost me less than that one Ichiro's 23YO. Do the math, cuz I don't it's it going to be quite that 'staggerangly' good to make up the difference.

That is a really good point! It makes you think when you buy an expensive whisky, "hmmm I could buy 2 of the amazing X malt for the price of 1 Y malt"

But I suppose if you are dead cert on buying a particular bottle, then not much will make you change your mind.

i knew i shouldn't have stopped whining. i got an email saying that my order has been processed and would be dispatched soon; unlike last time this was not followed a few hours later by a tracking info email from parcelforce. fine. but on the "order history" section of the whisky exchange website my order's status has now changed to "unknown".

It'll be ok. They're good people. email them and see what's going on - may just be a temporary shortage or somethin (unless this order includes a rarity which has sold).

Just ask them :D

Bowmore Dusk, 50%, 52USD. Not a big Bowmore or wine finish fan but since I saw this I've been contemplating going back and buying it.

Bruichladdich 1970 32 year old... Anyone have any thoughts? I can get a bottle for about $350. Not cheap, but a good price compared to most places. Is it worth it?

a malt maniacs average score of 78 based on 9 reviews. highest outlier is at 87, and lowest is 69. alas, no tasting notes (serge is not among the scorers so we can't check whiskyfun for notes). but you've probably already seen all this and this is no help.

you can get the 15yo darkest in the twin cities for not very much more than that price--much better reviewed, so may be a safer bet if you don't already have it or haven't already tried it?

Thanks, I hadn't looked at MM. Malt-Teaser's tasting notes here make it sound pretty good. And JM says "memorable for an astonishing finish after a so-so start" with an 80/100 in the '05 bible. I should really just quit all this fussing and buy both Dusk and Darkest already.

Absolutely. I bought one of these several years back. As it was disapperaing. I thought my life would feel empty without being able to have this in the future. I got two more.

I'm constantly on the lookout for the upcoming arrival (an assured event, apparently) locally of the Highland Park 12 Year Old Saint Magnus bottling. Of course, it could happen in the next month or next year, so unpredictable is the marketing schedule here.

There is this older bottling of the 16 yo Isle of Jura (light greyish/brownish/dirtyish package) in a local liquor store that is constantly flirting with me. I don't know what to do.

Yes, I know, being nonuncolored, nonunchilfiltered and nonundiluted, it is not RC (Ralfily Correct). And the reviews of yesteryear suggest it's not the greatest dram ever produced on this planet, but I have come to suspect reviews of products from 2nd and 3td tier distilleries if not based on blind tasting (e.g. I think a Rosebank will rate higher than it would ten years ago).

MJ says the nose id fern and forest floor. Yes! I'll go for it. But then others say it is caramelly. Nah, better give it a pass.

Please help!

Caramelly like smells of caramel, or caramelly like over-e150'd? Nothing wrong with the first.

Mmmm, just spotted a bottle of the Ichiro's 23YO for GBP150 instead of the GBP440 at Master of Malts. May be tempted to purchase at that price!!
