Tomatin25, stunning fresh fruit noise, oak jumps it all too quick on the palate but then due to the oak its a good long complex finish.A more evenly balanced palate would put this amongst stuff of legend for me.

Old Pulteney 21 and Nikka from the barrel; both very good and the hint of smoke in the Nikka was a welcome characteristic.

Last night we had a club St. Patrick's dinner & tasting (actually a tasting first and then an excellent buffet dinner) with the following Irish whiskies;

Powers NAS 40%
Jameson 12 40%
Tyrconnell NAS 40%
Bushmills 16 40%
Redbreast 12 40%
Writers Tears CS NAS 53%
Connemara NAS 40%
Connemara Turf Mor NAS 58.2%

and then post dinner I polished off a Laphroaig Quarter Cask to reset my palate and finised with an Aberlour a'bunadh batch #35... jolly jolly.

Hi Lawrence. Can you tell me a bit the Writer's Tears. I haven't tried it yet cause it is hard to find, but I may have to try harder to find it. --thanks

I can't remember.

No, actually it was my second favourite of the evening after the Redbreast 12yo but it had been a long day with a funeral and wake for a friend so I really wasn't focusing on the whiskies as I usually do with notes etc. I just enjoyed them and relaxed. Sorry I can't give more details...

At a Highland Park tasting at The Fat Badger in Harrogate.

Highland Park 12 yr old
Highland Park 18 yr old
High;and Park 21 yr old
Highland Park Thor

Highlights were the 21 yr old and the Thor - still wouldn't pay £100 plus for the latter though. The guy from Edrington hosting the tasting was quite interesting and talked about narrowing down the number of limited editions released and concentrating on the Valhalla range - 1 each year for next 4 years. Think he said that Thor was "limited" to 23,000 bottles but might have misheard by that point in the evening!

Sounds about right. And yes, that's limited, no quotation marks needed.

Glenrothes 1988 (2011)
Glenfarclas 105

Both are very nice. You don't need to bring your own chocolate bar with the 105. Wonderful, thick, WOW.
I wasn't born here, but I got here as quickly as I could.

Suntory Kakubin Black Label 43%
Yamazaki Taradeshi Genshu 43%
Nikka Taketsuru 17 43%

And one of the fantastic bartenders at MOD bar Taipei put together the following cocktail for the Mrs. We asked for something original and didn't prescribe what alcohol to be used but to my surprise amongst other things incuded a shot and a half of Hibiki 12. She loved it!

You're going about this the wrong way, chickenium. You can make more room for whisky by ridding your living quarters of such space-wasters as tables, chairs, beds, etc. It's just a matter of getting your priorities straight.

Whoa now, you can ditch the bed, chairs, and whatever else, but you shouldn't ditch the tables. They CREATE additional storage space with their solid, flat, surfaces. Plus they table top helps protects the ones stored under the table. :geek:

Ok so ditch everything and put shelves everywhere and keep only a 2 feet corridor. I think I got this!

FYI Oban 14 is down! I'll replace with a Benromach Peat Smoke this Thursday.

Total toll for the night :

Oban 14
Laphroaig QC
Lagavulin 16
Lagavulin 12 CS
Ardbeg Uigedail

Next week is Sherry week
