GBP27 seems like a good price considering it's "the most comfortable tshirt ever". Particularly when it's 50p less than the black tshirt which isn't "the most comfortable tshirt ever".

I was a bit sceptical about GBP20.50 for the mug until I saw that it was "the perfect size for [my] favorite morning beverage or late night brew". I would have expected to pay less had it only been perfect for one of those drinks, but double perfection surely deserves a premium.

GBP14.50 for the sticker did look a bit excessive though, despite the promise that it won't fade.

It's also 50p less than "the next best thing to nothing" which, of course, is organic!

Calm down Mark :-)

As far as I can see it's links to other places where those things are sold !

The Lip Balm takes you to Laphraoigs site

Slightly related

Recently I visited Sierra Nevada in Chico and they sold Holp-mint lip balm.. weird stuff :-)

1$ wasn't too much so I stocked up on a few. Nice to have some in case my beer breath goes away

Some links take you to other sites, the rest are his own t-shirts, and future bottlings. It's a commercial enterprise using Michael Jackson's Birthday for its own advantage. Not on.

I can't find any reference to MJ on the WWD website (I'm not saying it's not there somewhere, I just can't find it). I have to presume that all the objections from people have made him disassociate WWD from MJ not now it just seems to be WWD and if you didn't know about the significance of the date you'd never know.

Looks like the WWD will be massive. I've see shitloads of events popping up all over the world

Here's the danish whisky fairs event http://www.whiskymessen.dk/sidste-nyt-f ... whisky-day

A doubt the t-shirts will generate any money, I find them rather simple (ugly, actually) for my taste and I would never wear one. Look like the "I DRINK MORE BEER THAN YOU" t-shirts we made in high-school .

And anyone who have seen me live would know that stylish clothing is not the first thing that pops into peoples mind when they see me :-)

I never seen the reason for this day to divide whiskylovers like this, but then, Michael Jackson has never been part of my whiskylive, so it doesn't really mean anything to me if this day is connected to him or not

Steffen

PS I hope as many get together to celebrate whisky, whisky is worth it :-)

For me and probably for a lot here every day is a whisky day anyway, maybe I should start a world whisky-free day for the few mentals around the world :-)

It seems he has taken extra care to eradicate every reference both to MJ and the orignal "International Whisky Day". On the revamped website it just says

World Whisky Day™ was envisioned by Blair Bowman, a young whisky enthusiast, in June 2011. Since then he has been working single handedly to make World Whisky Day™ a global success story for whisky. World Whisky Day™ is a day for people across the world to thank those who work in the global whisky industry.

A whopping three events are already planned in Scotland alone

Hi Steff...I'm not a fan of WWD or the International Whisky Comp...in fact the thought of them makes my skin crawl. I had dealings with Blair a while ago, I had won a pair of tickets to the innaugrual Whisky Show in London. I asked on here and FB to see if anyone wanted the spare and I would just pick a name out of the hat...well I only got one response and that was from Blair but in the interim period I found him to be quite 'needy'..posting..oh you'll give it to someone else...pick me..pick me etc...tbh I found it annoying but I gave him the ticket. I met him in London and he is a personable lad...so I invited him onto Gordon's chat, where all he did was go on about some other chat he was doing on another format...we tried to make conversation but it was clear he just wanted to talk about his thing..he left after about half an hour. And this is how I have found his approach to getting folks to enter the IWC..mass spamming of anybody that has ever gone near a whisky club or blog or whatever. And as for the first IWC when it was a 'surprise' to him that he was not legal to drink in the USA...hmm. He had posted on his FB page saying that he was going...and even one of his friends pointed the fact out that he would not be legal. To me he took the free holiday and made his excuses. As for WWD he could have taken the offer from Hans and Becky Offringa and put his efforts into the already established and charitable International Whisky Day...but he declined and went his own way with WWD..on the same day...but it was all his own idea..hmm :? But at least he did say that any profits would be charitable...but now he seems to have gone back on this too...so basically he has nicked a charitable idea and is now saying it is his...and any mention of charity has been removed from his revamped WWD website...not only that but papers etc are picking up on his 'original' idea and blowing sunshine up his ass. Had he picked another day this would not have got peoples backs up..fair play..bash on..but he is using MJ's birthday to his own gain...and that is what irks people.

Oh yes Livvy, I was at that chat as well and do remember it! :D

he wanted us to go google wave 8-)

I am no way pro WWD, but is just pointing out it's a massive event by now, no matter what people think about it.

Even distilleries and IB's are supporting this, but maybe they want to :-), A whisky day can only be beneficial for them and they have no reason to stay out of it

Maybe he just picked up the gap that the people who invented the original WWD left. They didn't do much to promote it (I never heard of it until Blair started)

Steffen - who still plans a whisky free day !

I was quite interested to see Mast of Malt have launched this http://www.masterofmalt.com/Blog/post/World-Whisky-Day.aspx in collaboration with World Whisky Day... Guess it was just the obvious progression from a t-shirt ;)

Do you get royalties from creating a whisky? If so anyone fancy joining in creating my "Fund a poor student" whisky day?

World Whisky Day is here

Looks like a big succes, loads of events and participants, and a lot of the business participating (I've seen numerous distilleries, shops etc. mentioning this on twitter, facebook etc. today). It's quite understandable that the business grabs this opportunity for some free promotions worldwide

But especially the Malt Maniacs have shown some dissaproval (cant think of a better word) of WWD.

http://www.whiskyfun.com/#270312 and their members on facebook

Grumpy old men versus 1 young university student ?

The initial International Whisky Day was kinda left untended until a few people thought the event was taken over (or stolen?) by Blair, and International Whisky Day has been slightly waken up from the grave.

I think they missed the bus, the WWD is running its own game now, and its seems not to be related to Michael Jackson in anyway anymore. Apart from using the same day as his birthday.

I guess when you develop an idea something like this will happen. Someone else will. And they will do it their own way.

It doesn't seem like WWD has caught general support amongst hardcore whisky geeks, as it's not a very hot subject on various whiskyforums

Cheers, every day is a whisky day for me :D , but next year I will Launch my own GLOBAL WHISKY DAY, or maybe UNIVERSAL WHISKY DAY. On the 27th of March :-), or actually, I think we need a full weekend !

Steffen

PS I better start reading my copy of Beer Chaser, Whisky Hunter, never really got into it

Not at all mentioned today on this forum, until now, nor WhiskyMag, Straightbourbon.com, The Irish Whisky Forum, The Swedish forum. It got a wee mention on the danish forum, not by me, but I made a similar comment as this

No mention of MJ as well on any of these I have to say

It HAS gained momentum in the Casual Corner. On Twitter it was even among the top 10 topics for a short while... 99% of those people will think of someone else when they read "Michael Jackson"
