Braeval 1989 C&S Braes of Glenlivet 21 yo 54.7%. Braevals are not so easy to get so I had to check this one out when I saw it on whiskybase shop for a reasonable price. The first and only other Braeval I ever had was the legendary 75 CC bottling which is still around afaik and which is very good. This baby is much to my liking as well. More Braevals, please!

SMWS G5.2 Invergordon 17 yr old 65.3%...simply stunning. Need something more complex and with a bit more character after a thin and uninspiring Aberfeldy 21. This hits the mark.

Came home from a whiskey society meeting with a free bottle of Bowmore Darkest 15yo. Had low expectations based on some friends' opinions but I have to say, I think it's pretty enjoyable. I only had a small pour but it's got some nice complexity.

I like this too but find a bias against it possibly caused by JM's slating on it in succesive Bibles.

it is always easy to get people to dislike bowmores (yes, yes, i am like a stuck record--ask your grandparents what that means, kids!). i like the 15yo darkest too--my first bottle started out a little pukey but settled down quickly and became quite lovely in the second half.

right now: tomatin 12.

Re: Bowmore...I opened a 12yr (2011) this weekend and am surprised how much I love it. Sweet floral peat but also oranges and chocolate. I really need to grab some Bowmore IBs (sherry casks, I suppose) soon...

Now: Elijah Craig 18. Not the honey barrel I believe I had last bottle, but still very good. still coffee, cream and sugar but all a bit out of sync...

Kilchoman 100% Islay.

I truly enjoy this whisky. Light on the peat smoke. Lots of flavor. Mmmmm good.
