Archives Highland Park 11 yo. Best HP for me, no sherry here. only youngish heathery stuff from the beautiful Isle of Mainland (Orkney). I'd like to try an older HP pure bourbon cask sometime though.

there are 6 notes. of the 4 substantive ones, 3 mention bananas, 2 as the dominant note on the nose.

i had a 20ml courtesy sample so couldn't verify if it was my nose that was off that night or if bananas in the eurozone are very different.

That supports my theory that 25% of the human population are not sensitive to banana compounds in whisky.

I will pay attention the next time I sip it and report back on whether there are any bananas. I think bananas in Europe taste the same as in the US as they most likely come from the same sources, there are no bananas growing in Europe at least not substantial amounts...

Well, as it is a local holiday today, I think I might as well pour a dram, all that banana talk made me curious. So I poured a dram of the HP and guess what, first thing I smell are bananas :D No kidding. Well, it is not extremely obvious and I'd probably not been able to point it out on my own but after having been made aware I can confirm that I get a banana smell. Or is it me that has gone bananas :D

I am also bored today and can report that Spain is #24 on the global banana producing list, producing approx. 375,200 metric tonnes p.a., almost 3 times more than Jamaica. :D

you are taking the pish right :) However, eucalyptus is not so wrong, I get some herbal notes one could qualify as eucalyptus. As regards Dijon mustard, negative- most def. :D

edit: I was referring to mongo's post, not Scotchio's. Should've used the quote button.

Just enjoyed an excellent DT Glenburgie 1966/ 35yo. Cant remember who it was I got this sample from but thanks for a very good dram. Inspite of the age it's really nicely balanced. Some ovely lime/apple sweet barley notes and good oaky spices/vanilla. never gets bitter just a little minty at the death. Good stuff.
