Aberlour A'bunadh which batch?

Postby stevep » 11 Mar 2012, 20:02

Hi All,

I'm looking to buy a Aberlour A'bunadh... looking around I seem to be able to get hold of batch 36, 37, 38 & 39.

Anyone any opinion on if one's any better than another?

Many thanks,

Steve

Hello Stevep

Masters of malt have batch 37 & 38 on their website with discriptions at the same price, I have both, but not yet opened one, 36 was good.

Slainte :yummy:

I thought 36 was good. Not tried the later ones.

Of the ones I've tried, the 30's seem better.
I had a batch 27 or 29 (?) that was so revolting I sent it back. Tasted and smelt like rotten cardboard and mouldy cheese! Put me off trying the range again for a while! But the newer ones I've had I have really enjoyed as examples of a reasonably priced sherry monster :)

Thanks for your replies everyone, very helpful!

I guess as the 36 seems to be the oldest available, and three people have said it's good, I'll try and get that as the newer ones will be available for longer. :-)

Cheers,

Steve

Just to put this thread to bed in my mind I though I'd post some notes that I've just put up on my Instagram on the subject:

"Right... Finally had a bit of time with the 36, which is very nice and indeed very sherried, sweet, smooth and a touch woody. I've just done a tasting between the 36 and the 37... And although there's basically nothing much between them, the 36 is definitely a touch more spicy, so if you're wanting a really smooth dram, then the 37 would get my vote over the 36. Hey ho, too late now!"
