Should be an interesting one. Convalmore is often exceptionally good. I've got a Scotts 29yo that is so good I'm thinking I need to secure some more expressions for the future before they disappear out of my price range.

A look at whiskybase will confirm that stocks of Convalmore are all but gone. Obviously there may be the odd cask lying around somewhere but very little has been bottled in the last 3-4 years

I have one set aside and a couple I know I can get but yes GMs 1984 stock may well be the last man standing though. I get the feeling beyond 30 the oak could well overdo it anyway.

I'm looking to pick up a couple more Glen Mhors. Really like the Berry's 82 bottling and the old GM cask 79 16

Glenfiddich "pure malt" (NAS, 40%) liter
Isle of Jura (10yr, 43%) an old label
J&B Select and a couple other blended liters. Opened the J&B Select...really nice, delicate, medium-sherried blend, maybe close to Ballantines 12yr..

HP12 - a 2008 bottling.

I try to look out for these older bottlings in shops, from experience with 2009 bottlings. Not so good.

I found a bottle (last on shelf) of Caol Ila 2010 Unpeated 57.6% 70cl in a local vintners today at £34.95 and not whisky but in the same shop Somerset Cider Brandy 5 Year old 42% 70cl(also last on shelf) at £25.00 both really well priced IMO.

My first purchase intended for squirreling away for the future. I retire in 10 years and am aiming to buy 3 - 1, three bottles for storing to every one bottle for drinking. My own little retirement plan to ensure I have good whisky on hand once I start living on a fixed income.

Today's cellar purchase:

Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 15yr Bourbon, 2011 release.

This was an unexpected purchase of opportunity. I found it at an out-of-the way liquor store for the very down-to-earth price of $89. This will be the first Pappy Van Winkle bourbon I will try that is made by Buffalo Trace. The only PVW still being made from old Stitzel-Weller stocks is the 20yr and 23yr old, and I have a bottle of each of those still waiting to be opened.

Edradour 13yr Natural Cask 57.5% ABV, matured in a sherry butt.

Thinking about two others: a 37 year old Glen Grant and 14 year old cask strength Cragganmore.

EDIT: Ok, thought about it long enough and bought them both. The Glen Grant is a Duncan Taylor cask strength bottling at 51.5% ABV. Also added an Arran 1996 Sherry Cask 56% ABV.

Hi Jerome,

Is your Arran 1996 Sherry Cask from Cask 1785? If so, lucky you. It's a dandy!
