LCBO Product Updates

LCBO Product Updates

Postby portwood » 31 Mar 2011, 13:33

Hi all Maple Malt Mates,

I propose using this thread for updates on existing and/or re-listed products.
- price changes,
- sales (except the big markdowns like the 20% manager specials),
- alerts on dwindling inventory,
- re-listed items coming back into inventory,
- new batches of existing bottlings (i.e. a'bunadh),
This should keep the "New Products", and "Bargains & Discontinued Items" threads more focused.

Good idea!

About 25 bottles left of the Havana Club Barrel Proof @ $45. This line is no longer being made so if you like it, this is last call for you...

Excellent idea Porty. Under 100 bottles of UIGEADAIL left in the province. Certainly not flying off of the shelves but making a steady decline. Anyone remember what the initial release amount was?

HUGE price increase alert!

Johnnie Walker green label last week at $59.20 now at $74.95!!!!!!

Not many stores have it in stock but Morningside/401 still had the $59 sticker today. (don't bother going back there because they remoned the tag). It's likely they all still have the lower price tag on the shelf.

Does anyone know if this was originally a higher price and was marked down to $59 to clear or has it been at $59 for a while?

Ouch... Thanks for the heads up. It was always $59 to the best of my knowledge. I'll be canceling my order on this one. I was going to get one for the novelty sake of it, as mfurman said... nice to have around, but not at that price.

It was quite cheep when sold for $59.2 (cheaper that at Duty Free). Is it worth the higher price? I am not sure. I found it interesting that there were only a few stores selling it originally. By the way, I had it in my hand but did not buy it (still have some in a bottle bought a year ago).

My guess is that its coming back in a vintages release (the bi-weekly catalogue) at the higher price. A few stores jumped the gun and stocked the shelves early and someone at HQ didn't get around to changing the system price until this week!

I like it at $59 (bought 4 today to add to the one I've been enjoying) but NOT at $75. :-o

Funny, a rep from the LCBO told me that they stopped carrying Green Label because they weren't willing to pay the increased price from Diageo. Looks like they're going back on that statement...

Green Label is not in the slightest worth paying 74$. It is very light, and lots of nothing in particular. You would be far better off tasting each component individually. In this case it is much LESS than the sum of its parts.

Basically, the consumer is paying for the age statement...15yo! I can get Glenfiddich 15 for less than that.

It is worth noting thought that it contains:
>15YO Talisker
>15YO Caol Ila

How much of these single malts (at this age) do you see at LCBO?

there is also

>15YO Cragganmore

I had heard it as Diageo was allocating stock to markets where they were able to sell it better originally, and then today when I popped in to purchase one an LCBO employee was telling me how happy he was to see it back on the shelves and that he had heard a lot of the stock was going to China where it was selling very well. Any way you slice it it looks like all explanations lead to money being the main factor in it being away from the Ontario market for a little while. Even with the new higher price it is still one of the nicer drams available (personal opinion) in Ontario when looking for a blend or in this case 'vatted' malt, at a reasonable price point. Also interesting to note that the Green is now available and the Gold has now been marked as discontinued on the LCBO site.

Yes, they told me that the Diageo price increases were on account of increased demand in India, Russia, and China. I complained to them because the increases came right after the released a glossy ad campaign for whisky. The next day they jacked the prices, which to me seems like false advertising. They evoked the "prices subject to change without notice" clause, and then told me to be grateful because other provinces were raising prices more.

There was one other product, a cheap blend, that they dropped along with Green Label. I'm thinking it was Bell's or something.

All of those are wonderful whiskies...as single malts. As singles they MIGHT be worth that price tag. However, the minute you blend them, they lose their uniqueness.

As for each of those malts, you can actually find each single malt represented, but not at those age statements. Linkwood, in particular is not a whisky that I would ever pay for to be blended with anything else. It is VERY delicate and floral, and you would NOT be getting your money's worth, it is too easily drowned out by the Talisker.

Hey don't get me wrong, I think that at 59$, it is reasonably priced. At 75$ NO way.

Website showing price on Forty Creek Confederation Oak at $64.95 without the "save $5.00" tag line.

Is this a mistake or are we seeing a price drop on a slow mover :?:

I think that because the monthly sale just ended, they have not yet re-adjusted the pricing back to $69.95. I've seen it happen before.

Speaking of pricing adjustments...did anyone notice something strange about the listing for Wiser's Legacy? Can it be true?

Very interesting
While the Wiser's Legacy drops by $35 .... the 18yo has been bumped up $65 :-o (I paid $50 last Nov. and I think $55 recently)

Not likely that stores have updated the shelf tags. Soooooo, if you like the 18, and if the on-line pricing is accurate vs the POS price, take advantage before they change the in-store prices.

That's bloody criminal. Did your salary go up 20%?! And the Legacy...well were they off on their pricing by 40%!?

This just goes to show how these bozos are simply using arbitrary numbers when carrying out their pricing. the 18 yo just had a price jump to 55$, which I wasn't happy about, now another 10$!

I agree with your thoughts. Those price fluctuations show how relative the "value" of these products is.
