I'm not sure we're ripe enough, but the oil sands are coming along nicely! ;)

Not sure where to post this...this thread seems most applicable.

Just was on the LCBO site, and they are now using the term 'Limited Supply' in addition to 'Product Discontinued' as a warning marker on product listings. When you click on an affected listing, the listing a '...while quantities last' disclaimer, but does not put the restriction on store transfers of inventory that you see on the discontinued bottles.

Just a curious observation today...

It does make more sense as I look around. The 'limited supply' ones seem like non-vintage list, one time buys whenever the LCBO got a purchasing opportunity. Its good that the store transfer 'rules' are lifted for these.

8 bottles of Woodford Reserve Seasoned Oak have mysteriously appeared at First Canadian Place. Can't say I'd splurge for that one. It's priced well above every other bourbon I can remember being available at the LCBO.

Did anyone here buy a bottle? Any impressions?

A little off topic here, I've been keeping my eye on the inventory of HP 21 y/o ( in Ottawa stores anyway) . They don't appear to be moving very fast, and at close to $300 I'm not surprised. I was just wondering if anyone out there knows how long an item has be to idle (or close to it) on the shelves before is has a price reduction? I know that this is somewhat of special item, but is there a chance that we will see a discount with this bottle? Or is the LCBO content sitting on the inventory it has at the current price until it runs out?

No rhyme or reason to board discounts. Case in point is Scapa16, been on the shelves for 2 years and never once discounted. I see that it is now classified as "limited supply". I think this new moniker is a psychological ploy to get people to buy things they think they will never see again. As far as the HP you mentioned goes... I'd go into the closest store you can find that has the most stagnant inventory and ask the manager if he will discount it for you. He just might.... I've done it before but the rules have changed since the last time I tried it. Worth a try.

Hmmm, very interesting, I had never thought of haggling down a bottle of whisky from the LCBO. But like you said, it's definitely worth a try. If I may ask, to what degree of a discount did you achieve? Or what should I expect? Somewhere in the 10%- 15% range? I think I may be expecting too much as I am hoping for something closer to 30%

Thanks for the tip, much obliged,

I believe managers are allowed to mark down items no more than 20% to shift stock.

 I have been looking at this one for awhile and have really enjoyed the sample that I was able to try several months ago. Alas, my whisky budget is likely spoken for, for the next little while (summer...we'll see) so I'll hope to get this in the fall.

Random LCBO site observation...Ardbeg Uigeadail and Corryvreckan appear to be coming back at the end of April...for the bargain basement price of $166 & $182, respectively... :-o

Just for reference, you can get (pre-tax) the two bottles at Binny's for $70 & $90, respectively...after tax it would come in around $175. Michigan's minimum price list has them at $75 & $85. I know the LCBO can have ridiculous pricing, but what gives here?!?

I picked up a bottle of the oogie for $75 while I was in Salt Lake City recently. I couldn't believe that in a mormon state that used to completely ban alcohol and still has some archaic alcohol laws, scotch was about 100% cheaper across the board. I wouldn't say the selection was as good as the LCBO (everything else in the store was easily available in Ontario), but it was all roughly half price.

I had a dram of the most recent Corry over Christmas, and while it was a very nice one that I'd love to own, I'd never drop $182 on a bottle. Of all the Ardbegs I've had (all the standard expressions save for Blasda, plus the 17), it tastes most similar to the 10 in my opinion, and the 10 is much better bang for your buck.

Also that release date is for 2011, not 2012. Either it's completely incorrect, or they were too lazy to update the year. I've seen cases of both in the past, their website is incredibly poorly maintained for such a large company.

Consider yourself lucky they limited themselves to a $2 price increase on each one since they were last available. ;)

I don't like the pricing on Ardbeg, but consider that all the stock sold quickly a few months ago. So, to be honest, if I were a retailer I would do the same. Obviously, there are enough people with deep pockets that don't think Ardbeg overpriced.

Other items (Bruichladdich, Springbank, and others) that linger on the shelves, OTOH ...

I'm hoping there's enough of an allocation that the stock lasts into the summer...I would like to get a bottle at some point...it's about 4th on the priority list currently (I seem to average about one bottle a month, excluding gifts and 48 hr + US trips).

Based on vintageassessments, it seems like the allocation is 450 bottles (75cases @ 6 bottles/case), unless I am interpreting the data incorrectly.

I think that Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist is quite a bit different (and better) than Ardbeg 10YO. I agree about prices though.

LCBO prices may be crazy but with Scotch 100% cheaper even a Mormon would be tempted to pick up a bottle or three - for medicinal purposes of course. ;)
