NAS 40% - Amrut

NAS 40% - Amrut

Postby TheTross » 15 Nov 2008, 18:35

From information given on the bottle label, this was probably bottled in November 2005

Nose: Something akin to pencil shavings at first. Fresh and quite floral, with notes of spices, liquorice, hay and grass. Also quite buttery and honeyed. A little melon and mint. Slightly spirity if nosed deeply.

Palate: Honey. Buttery and quite citrussy (lemon). Aniseed and liquorice. A touch of fudge and cocoa.

Finish: Honey, butter, a little oak and hints of milk chocolate. Something bitter as well, but that doesn't last long. Hints of liquorice.

This is really good stuff and actually reminds me of a more robust version of the Lowland style!

Amrut, India

Nose:
Aniseed, coriander and a bouquet of other herbs.

Palate: Aniseed and hints of citrus. Also smooth and pleasant. The initial flavour is short, but it quickly returns with lots of aniseed and citrus.

With water: Much more spicy and aggressive.

New to me, my first Amrut. Made better no doubt by the fact it was free (a gift from an Indian colleague).

N: I pick up hay and pencil shavings, yes. Also some fennel seed and a trace of cinnamon bark in the background.
An interesting nose, not quite like anything I've had before

P: Quite creamy followed by a nice slightly oily fennel again, and then some of the citrus fruit that Tross and Malty mention. Quite a summery dram I feel. Yes I can see an analogy with Lowlands.

F: Longer than I expected. The citrus goes right through it, and there's a slight buttery flavour. Spicey too.

This is really rather good stuff. It exceeds my expectations and could be a nice summer whisky out in the garden in the evening.
Must try the Fusion and the Two Continents, which are rated highly.
