Nøgne Ø beer

Nøgne Ø beer

Postby Gunfreak » 04 Oct 2010, 22:14

I'm curious if any non Norwegians have tried any of their beers,

I started just last week to go into beer, I hate beer, but thats becasue all I've tried is Pilsner, 98% of all beer in Norway is pilsner, it sucks it piss, it horrible what was the reason I havn't drinken more then 2 bottles of beer my entire life.

But since beer and whisky go togeather and I like the aspect that you enjoy a good beer like a good whisky, I decided to learn to like it, I stayed FAR away from pilsner I concentarted on dark English beer, Samuels smiths Dutch select ect. Then I fround Nøgne Ø a Norwegen Micro brewery that now makes 250 000 liters a year 50% shipped out of country, they make what I concider quality beer, dark stuff like porter, IPA, bitter, stouts, it has won sevral awards, so my qestion has anybody tried it or seen it in the stores?

I remember enjoying Hansa when I was in Bergen. That was 30 years ago though. But I still have the glasses!

Hansa is probably german beer

I tried both of Nøgne Ø's xmas beers 2 xmas' ago and didn't like neither, but then, I've don't really like any of the danish xmas beers either. To strong in alcohol and the hop/malt combo is just not my taste

Nøgne Ø beers are pretty similar to American microbrews. The IPA is really, really nice. It's also about $8 a bottle in the US, which is unfortunately prohibitive.

Well you have to think of it like a treat, instead of going to the movies, you get a bottle of good beer, and stay home, mabye enjoy it with a whisky I find that IPA works well with lighter whiskies.

instead of easting candy you get a bottle of beer and a glass of whisky, perfect eveing.

I can't but recommend Nøgne Ø beers! Very decent ones and you can find very very good ones even with bit lower percentage in volume. Luckily Norway isn't so far away from Finland so cost of 1 bottle isn't that bad.
Haven't tried a lot of em' yet, but so far no dissapointments have come across.

I used to live in Aberdeen and one of the loveliest restaurants used to do various beer dinners. (Musa, for the record and well worth a visit if you're ever there.) I went to a couple of them and one of them was a Nøgne Ø beers one. I must say I really enjoyed the evening, and loved hearing Kjetil's stories to go along with the beers.I haven't seen it for sale much here in Scotland which is a great shame!
I was also impressed by the Saki that he brought along too, having never really tried any before I was unaware there was such diversity and so many varieties! (I'm a beer and whisky kinda gal)

Funnily enough I was trying to persuade the alcohol buyer for my employers to get it on our beer list just the other day... Fingers crossed he will listen to me!
