Here's a recent beer purchase

brewdog prototype 17 - 77 lager fermented with a Belgian Yeast aged in a single grain whisky cask with bucket loads of local raspberries.

brewdog/three floyds 'Bitch Please' -
I am a collaborative brew. I am a messed up, idiosyncratic, schizophrenic son of a bitch. I would blame my parents.

With the wolves of Three Floyds and pirates from BrewDog
involved, the writing really was on the wall for me. Right from the start.

Nick, Barnaby and Chris from the legenedry Three Floyds
visited BrewDog in August 2010 to brew this crazy beer. An
inherently Scottish spin on a barley wine brewed with peated malts from Islay, shortbread, toffee and eclectic hops.

After fermentation the beer was aged in old Jura single malt whisky barrels for 8 months.

All because of the Scamp Wolf of Badenoch. Bitch it up baby!

A few not-so-random beers I picked up this afternoon.

Kiuchi brewery's Hitachino Nest 'Real Ginger Ale'.
Kiuchi brewery's Hitachino Nest 'XH'.
Sapporo Brewery's Yebisu 'All Malt Beer'.
Baltika Brewery's Number 4 ' Original Dark'.

The two Kiuchi offerings were quite interesting both in the glass and from their brewing process based what I have read while consuming.

Last week from the 'reduced to clear' shelf in Tesco:

Black Sheep Ale
Traditional Porter 6% (For Tesco, by Harviestoun)
Badger Thrice Hopped Hopping Hare
Melville's Strawberry Beer
Melville's Raspberry Beer

I bought the last two to drink in the garden as the weather was getting good. Now it looks like I'll be drinking them inside with a jumper on, doesn't look like central Scotland will be getting any sunshine anytime soon...

Last night I had a couple of bottles of 'American-style' Double IPA brewed for Tesco by the Brewdog bad-boys....

I was a bit put off as some of the Brewdog expressions have not been to my liking and it's at 9.2% ABV but I'll be back for a few more. Highly recommended

Being a massive stout fan I was happy to see a local Tesco stocking a couple I've not had before:

  • St Peter's Cream Stout
  • William Brothers' March of the Penguins

March of the Penguins is brewed with coriander and orange zest thrown in the mix and smells a bit like a Terry's chocolate orange, which was a nice surprise, but the St Peter's offering is one of the best stouts I've had - thick, rich and full of flavour and definitely one I'll be buying time and again.

I just got a small stack of beer delivered by the BrewDog folks - they've changed their delivery guys and the new ones didn't break anything, like they have the last three times. They haven't updated the website to say it's been sent and did leave the parcel with a very shy lady on the ground floor of my block who I've never met before and who I had to coax into opening the door to give me the box, but other than that...

I got some Punk cans (because they fit in the little shelf in the fridge), some Hello My Name is Ingrid (Cloudberry infused beer - incredible on tap and pretty good in bottle) and some AB:07 (whisky cask aged Imperial ale). One of the AB:07s will be opened soon...

The Craw: The Tesco American Double IPA is just rebadged Hardcore IPA, as far as I know. I think its cheaper than Hardcore though, which is a good thing :)

I bought some of this in KY...very interesting bourbon barrel aged beer. $10.99 for a 4 pk. Does not have widespread distribution, unfortunately. But, they just started selling in China...

Alltech is an animal nutrition company - they also make yeast. Dr Lyons -founder of Alltech put up the cash (from what I heard) - he is a brewer by trade (Irish). They are making some good beer!

And, they just broke ground on a new distillery in Lexington KY - going to make bourbon.

8-) ...if the Town Branch bourbon makes its' way to Michigan (I'm assuming for now at least, there are no plans to bring it into Ontario...LCBO doesn't carry any US craft distilleries bottlings at this point) I'll have to pick up a bottle, if only because the groundbreaking for the new plant was on my b-day! Any reason is a good reason to pick up a bottle of whisk(e)y, right?

Probably won't get far from KY at this point but Dr. Lyons knows how to grow a company so maybe in a few years it will be in more states. And look at that bottle....very much like Wiser's!

I just picked up a Nogne 0 Imperial Stout because of all the hullabaloo about this brand. Very curious...

I just got this back onto my shelves at work, which I'm thrilled about. Big fan of Kjetil's work, I think he makes some really tasty brews. Would love to know what you make of it!

How much did you pay for that, Frodo? I love Nøgne Ø's IPA, but it's $8 for a 12-ounce bottle here. I can get a six-pack of an American IPA I like about as much for less than that.
