Christmas Ales

Christmas Ales

Postby barhell » 21 Dec 2010, 21:42

Anyone got any recomendations for Christmas Ales my personal favourite at the moment is brewed within 2 miles of my house which is handy and is Hepworths Noel a hearty 7.5% but not in a way which lets you know while your drinking it, more in the effects after a glass or 2.
Looking forward to a few suggestions to try.

I have a couple of US ales for Christmas that I'm going to write up over the holidays including the traditional one from the Anchor Steam brewery.

German brewers Erdinger do a winter release 'Shneeweisse' which I'm sure means Snow White in English. It is a wheat beer but really rich in flavour and ultimately Christmassy :D

Xmas beers has been a tradition in Denmark as long as time can remember :-)

With the amount microbreweries exploding here, the choice in xmas beers are now measured in 100's

Some friends and I usually open xmas in late november with an evening sampling xmas beers, thou I wasn't able to attend this year due to a family bday

My favourite xmas beer are :

Yuleale by Wintercoat, followed by

"Hjul og Stejle" by Djævlebryggeriet

"Julefabel" by Baggårdsbryggeriet, now closed but brewed at Nibe Bryghus, I haven't tried the new version

These will probable be hard to find, not easy either here in Denmark

Great Lakes Brewing Company Christmas Ale

One of the better craft beers I've had and it's made 5 minutes from my apartment.

I got a Goose Island Christmas Ale and then realised it's a 2009 bottling so it has possibly been developing in the bottle for over a year. Their website says it can develop for up to five years so this should be interesting.

Holly Daze from the Fyne Ales brewery is really nice so I might need to pop out to Oddbins for a few more bottles.

Still haven't seen any Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout about. I hope they've brewed some this year. Has anyone seen any?

Fullers Golden Pride. Man that is good stuff. And if you can get it on draught it's exceptional.
