Goose Island bought by Anheuser-Busch

Goose Island bought by Anheuser-Busch

A sad bit of news today. Goose Island, one of Chicago's finest micro breweries decided to sell out to A-B for something in the neighborhood of $39 million. It's difficult not to be frightened of a looming drop in quality, though I certainly hope to be proven wrong. Time will tell, I suppose.

If I'd built a microbrewery from scratch and got to the point where someone offered me $39 million for it, I think I'd have a hard time saying no. I guess at that point it's hard to call Goose Island a true craft brewer. But yes, they are well respected. If A-B is smart enough to let them do what they do, they'll be all right.

That rarely happens though.

Ditto to that... If they can't find a way to replicate your product... they'll find other means to get you out of business/making them money...
