OB Work In Progress 6yo 46% Kilkerran

Nose: A surprisingly gentle nose given Kilkerran's full strength profile. Definite salt fish notes nicely balanced with malt and vanilla.
Mouth: Salt and sugar in perfect harmony as the malt struggles to assert itself. Surprising floral notes.
Finish: Not all that exciting and a little hot at the end.
Comments: A very decent whisky but I wish these WIP bottlings were at full strength.

N Tightly combined : slightly oily cereals, sweet fruit(ripe melon, pear?) light licorice, marshmallow,a sort of creamy brininess suggesting creamed coconut, maybe some coke smoke

T Lively, nice softly creamy feel, medium bodied. Light repetition of notes from the nose mostly that briny coconut cream quality and mint.Reminds me of American Cream Soda drink somehow.

F Lightly creamy glossy oils but quite clean. Lingering licorice tinged barley, brine, mint, quite juicy

B Quite sweet and creamy medium weight.Consistent notes throughout N T and F though it's all tightly combined.Very enjoyable at 6yo but you get the feeling this will get really interesting with another 10 to 15 years in wood.

Not really sure if this is a six year old that I have or not, but let's give it a go anyway.

Nose: Very thick gristly malt and a softened, almost gone butyric note. Nutty. Still quite green. Some coal-like notes. Still has new-make about it with a coppery sheen to the intense malt, but starting to round off.
With water: Big malty presence, nuts, some very delicate citrus and vanilla (if you search for it). Better than neat.

Taste: Young, a dirty edge to the malt, coppery too. Some tobacco and fig notes, and phenols too which help to lift it somewhat.
With water: Pretty dirty, tobacco, copper, but lots of malt which richens and brings through citrus.

Finish; Malt gives way to dirtier notes of youth, but still some good stuff going on with phenols and fruit pointing the way this is going. Quite long
With water: Sweeter and lighter, more definition and shape. Has some guts, but then suddenly thins out.

Balance: Not that well balanced, surly and dirty but some indications of future charm and the malt sweetness is thick enough to stay the course. Bit of an Emo teenage angst at the moment.
