think I've just hit the jackpot

Postby goofy » 18 Feb 2012, 12:14

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I live and work on a country estate in NE Scotland. My boss is in the process of building a country restaurant that will hopefully stock and sell the best of local produce. Anyway, he wanted suggestions as to what to stock so I suggested, as you would, whisky. I showed photos of the Highlander Inn Glendronach to highlight just what could be done. He liked it :-o

I've now been asked to look into it, see if it is feasible and if so make it happen. The trouble is I wouldn't even know where to start. It surely can't be as simple as calling the distillery and going round to select a cask? Any advice on where to look or what to do would be welcome.

thanks

:D

Hi Goofy,

I'm not sure if you mean you want to stock a whisky bar or if you want to stock your own bottled whisky, but if it is the latter you could do worse than to contact http://www.whiskybroker.co.uk as he can help with sourcing, bottling, labelling, paying taxes, and everything else that goes with bottling your own whisky. If you want to stock a whisky bar then you could try contacting Gordon & McPhail perhaps, as they can supply mIxed cases of whisky. There may be a better way to stock a whisky bar though, I'm no expert.

Good luck, sounds fun!

Thanks badger,

Some good ideas there. I think the idea would be to find a good single cask we could bottle for ourselves, a whisky bar would be something we could build up too. The one condition being it should be from a local distillery as the boss is keen on local produce. We're about halfway between Glen Garioch and Glendronach so I guess the first step is to get in touch with them and see if it is a feasible idea.

There is a lot to learn but is a fun problem :D

I'll talk to my boss if I shouldn't do the same for our pharmaceutical production site :P

I think it must be quite easy to obtain a cask of Glendronach. They will probably do all the work for you and bottle it exclusively. Have fun!
