Whisky bars in Oban, Fort William and Skye?

Postby an donas » 19 Mar 2012, 21:30

Just doing some research on pubs/ bars with good selections of whisky. Its been a while since I drank in these places but all I can think of at the moment are the Sligeachan Hotel and Eilean Iarmain in Skye.

Anyone got any suggestions? Ta!

Oban : Markie Dan's

Fort William : Grog and Gruel

Skye : Stein Inn

None of these got spectacular collections, but I would say it's decent and I couldn't find better when I went to those places last time. All these places serves real ales. Markie Dan's had just one tap, but they had quite a lot whiskies actually

Cheers for that. My partner says the Stein Inn is quite a cosy place. Maybe check it out in summer.

The Stein Inn is nice but if you want an awesome whisky selection on Skye go to the Sligachan Hotel. Much easier to get to than the Stein as well.

Do 'em both. Nothing like a pint out front of the Stein on a sunny day.

Steffen mentioned the ones I would have, but my main criterion is a good pint. There was another one in Oban that was okay, but I can't remember the name...Oban's really pretty dire since the Oban Inn closed.

Morvern Callar mentioned the Kale Onion and The Mantrap in Oban. No idea about their whisky ranges...

The Lorne perhaps? Maybe not a big selection of malts, but they do have real ale too ;)
And they do decent pub grub.

Ho-ho.

Got various expressions of Queen Margot I heard...

Aye, the Sligachan is good as is Seumas' Bar next door. Can't beat a dram in front of the fire there with the Cuillin outside glowering down at you.

Yes, I think that's it, thanks. And on second thought, Oban's not so bad, really...something about it strikes me as depressing, but I can't say that's fair, as I'm usually just passing through. The Oban Inn block being boarded up doesn't help, though...that looks really bad. Hopefully somebody will make something of it soon. I'd far rather see the building rehabbed than torn down and replaced.
