Ralfy finally reviewed it, the Old Pulteney 12. In his notes he had about the same nose I had had over a year and half ago when I last time drank this whisky. Those particular notes were apple, fruitiness, toffee, salt etc. Now I had to check my notes right after since I recalled to get a huge raisin nose aswell. I still remember it clearly because it was like fresh raisins straight out from the package. Well I found my OP 12 notes and there it was, raisins and sherry on the nose. Then I had to checked that OP 12 wasn't a sherry cask matured because I was so confused, got the asnwer from their site which stated it was an ex-bourbon, like I recalled.
Now I didn't bother thinking it more deeply untill today when I checked out ralfy's second OP review, which was that single cask. In less than 4 minutes he had mentioned that there was a raisin nose almost sherry like and I remembered my notes on OP 12 nose (at this time I had my notes opened). He supposed European oak or Spanish oak to been used in this single cask expression due to the sherry like nose, but this got me confused because I clearly rember having raisin nose in OP 12 aswell and it's an ex-bourbon.
So the questions follow:
Is it part of thr Old Pulteney profile to have raisin nose even the casks are different (distill or casks perhaps cause this)?
Is it possible for an ex-bourbon cask to produce immense raisin/sherry nose in OP 12?
What kind of bourbon that cask has most likely held if it's possible?
Has there been cask changes in OP 12 in last 2 year period of time?
Anyone else has had same kind of experience on the OP 12 nose?
To add: Version I had had that tin lid instead of a plastic one on the top of the package and I reacall it to be bought from Edinborough by a friend visiting over in UK in summer 2010.
OP 12 is the only I have tasted from the OP range (one of my favourite whiskies out there, sadly it's bit limited to get other ones from the OP range in Finland).
EDIT: I kept on watching the single cask review and notes on that one were actually more identical with the ones I had on the OP 12 (cider like apple, raisins, toffee, pear)... funny but odd
