Laphroaig PX

Postby an donas » 02 Apr 2012, 12:16

I see that this has been released through travel retail. Sounds delicious. Anyone tried it? Am going through Edinburgh Airport soon and need some help in selecting something from their smorgasbord of malts...

Sounds like a re-attempt at the triple wood... which was rather underwhelming when I had it recently...

I really don't think heavily peated malts are suited to extensive sherry cask maturation.

i would disagree with that. i've had excellent full-term sherry matured laphroaigs, caol ilas and bowmores. and i quite liked the laph triple wood too (though it's not a world beater).

It's a tricky business though. It can go very wrong as well as very right.

Yes, especially since there are so many crap sherry casks in use these days.

Aye, passed through on Thursday to be told that the Laph PX had sold out. Not even a tasting bottle was left. Lots of new and underwhelming Auchentoshans were there though.

I liked the Laphroaig Triple and this sounds promising. £56 a litre apparently. Maybe in summer then and after some reviews have come out.
