Not me, even tho I literally walk right past the Vaults every night on my walk home, how tempting is that :|

Via my employer I am lucky enough to have access to a corporate pass so I do visit sometimes.

Many will say that I'm missing out on great bottles etc but my feelings are that I'm not really into such 'club' mentality. Indeed, the only club that I'm a member of and frequent is my local rugby club, as I have life membership.

I've been eyeing the Islay bottlings they currently are offering. I believe there is a Laphroaig available so I may have to bite.

Is it worth joining? I can get to the London HQ and am in Edinburgh once or twice a year.

I think that it is worth joining if you can get to the venues, the whisky is good is generally good (though some have had issue with Sulphur recently, not something I am prone to). If you are sensitive to sulphur then you can avoid it if you read the tasting notes carefully but the best way is to try at the venues before you buy.

If you do want to join I think I have a code from Whisky Live that gets you an additional free bottle with your membership (you could repay by quoting my number so I get something too if they allow it  )
PM me if you want the details

Even one of the SMWS directors has admitted that the panel doesn't always reflect sulphur in their notes. I for one have been a victim of that more than once.
As a result, for the first time in, what, 17 years?, I have declined to renew.

Is there any other clubs/societies that have this double-barrel of independent bottlings and exclusive access to tasting rooms?

I'm a member, although I'm not sure why. It's not really worth it to me on a dollar basis. I only buy a few bottles a year. Haven't been to the Vaults in a couple of years, either. But I keep re-upping.

I never get sherry casks, so sulphur is not a problem.

You have misunderstood. It is not disposition of the bottles that is the problem.

I'm the same way I renew every year but only buy 1-2 bottles a year, I do go to a couple extravaganzas a year so the savings thee offsets a little of the cost.
