Another partial bottle has been added to the cabinet. A good friend attempted about 10 months ago to get into whisky tasting with me. He bought a bottle of HP 12 as a starter, but found whisky was not to his liking. I have been working on the bottle on occasion when visiting his house. He will be moving to California in the next week and has kindly passed the remaining 1/3 to me. The bottle has definitely evolved nicely as it has been open. :yummy:
The wishlist is always growing...

I'd better grab one or two of the Chichibu First.

I purchased a few bottles from whiskybase shop yesterday. Now I am patiently waiting until I get them. All interesting cask strenght bourbon cask bottlings from Highland Park (Archives), Braeval (G&S), Ardmore (Whisky Doris) and Dalmore (Whiskybroker)...

Grabbed a bottle of Old Pulteney 12 today. The reviews were just too interesting to pass it up. I'd have probably walked right past this one if it weren't for all the chatter I've seen on the web about it.

New bottles arrived,3 lovely darkish refill sherry bottles (Teaninich 15,Imperial 18, Macallan 21) all of which are mercifully sulphur free and arent totally sherry dominated so I'm a happy bunny. Oh and the laddie 10 is quite nice too.

Now who was it had CC teaninich lighter bottling. If theyre about I'd love to swap a sample just for comparison. :)

I stopped in at a local liquor store this morning to pick up some beer that I ordered, and to my surprise they managed to obtain one bottle each of:

Old Rip Van Winkle 10yr 107 Proof bourbon
Van Winkle Special Reserve 12yr 90.4 Proof bourbon

I bought them both.

Glen Grant 22yr Duncan Taylor NC2 46% ABV
Dalmore 18yr Duncan Taylor 56.7% ABV Cask Strength

I found the Dalmore 12yr OB too thin and watery at 40% ABV, but I liked enough of what I was getting to explore an independent cask strength bottling.

HP 30 y/o 48.1% abv. This will be stashed away for a few years until one of my daughters weddings (they are currently 1 and 3 years old), or my retirement (my pension report states that this not till 2035!). Any suggestions on long term storage? I have a couple of Brora 30's (2007, 2009) to go along with the HP as well that I would like to keep in good condition as well. These WILL be consumed (not sold, just for clarification), just not for another 20 - 30 years or so.

Cool, Dark place (e.g. the back of the cupboard) that's got a wee bit of humidity in the air so the cork doesn't dry out that doesn't have massive temperature fluctuations.

Talisker 25 from 2005... sadly, thanks to Ebay... one of those ones you just put a bid on for S's and G's at the start of the auction saying... no way I'll win it for that price... now the waiting time for shipping.

Chieftain's Rosebank 1990 20 Year 54% from a Sherry Butt... oh... soo gooood :yummy:

It's been an expensive month... probably will be the last bottles for a while :(

Should be an interesting one. Convalmore is often exceptionally good. I've got a Scotts 29yo that is so good I'm thinking I need to secure some more expressions for the future before they disappear out of my price range.

A look at whiskybase will confirm that stocks of Convalmore are all but gone. Obviously there may be the odd cask lying around somewhere but very little has been bottled in the last 3-4 years
