BP good to see you back and thanks for this notice.

Further details here:

I feel for RMW with this one due to the new licensing regulations - an example of red-tape gone completely mad!

On a similar issue I can no longer benefit from vouchers on real ale from my CAMRA membership due to the same laws to help alcohol abuse. Now it looks like it will potentially impact my enjoyment and value received from WF, THE whisky event of the year :(

Anyway, I'm off to get just a wee bit squiffy with a Brewdog nanny-state beer!

It will affect my holiday planning. If tickets aren't certain until late its harder to organise accomodations etc.

Will this affect other events ?. Will all whisky festivals have to be moved to main land Europe ?

Sorry Macdeffe, the plan to sell tickets earlier to allow foreign visitors to come to Fringe was been well and truly scuppered.
I don't think anyone should panic that Fringe isn't going to happen, its just that we want to be sure that it is difficult getting Licensing to confirm what is and what isn't allowed.
We have to careful not to...
1. Mis-sell the event. What if we do have to place some restrictions on the way people drink? We have a lot of loyal customers that we don't want to annoy if they have come every year expecting one thing and then we sell them a ticket without telling them it will be a different type of event.
2. Sell lots of tickets to good people such as Macdeffe who travel an awful long way only for Fun Undermining Council Killjoys to ruin everything. Refunds on flights/accommodation etc for a blameless someone. We already had that date mix-up last year that brings us up in twitches and hives.

People in licensing are clearly very, very overworked at the moment (who's fault is that?) so it's difficult getting answers but we thought delaying is fairest for most of our customers.

Brilliant

Having dealt with the entity that is Embra Cooncil on a few occasions on both a business and personal level, whilst paying them £200 a month for something called Cooncil Tax, I know exactly how you feel.

RMW have done the right thing by delaying ticket sales and we all know it's outwith your control - at least we have the weekend date guaranteed for next year and everyones plans (be it travelling from far flung places like Leith or closer to hand) can be made around that.

If it was me I'd just get rid of the deals if required and even up the ticket prices (now slightly mind!) if needs be - as long as you don't implement a voucher system I think we'll all be happy enough.

Don't know if this is the right thread to ask, but what makes the Whisky Fringe different to other whisky festivals?

Whisky Fringe is a wonderful festival with an unrivalled range of exhibitors, great organisation from the RMW team, no vouchers (up till now at least) and the Rum Chapel thrown in just in case you are getting bored with whisky. Add to this the two day nature of the event and it means you have a real chance to get round most of the stuff you were interested in without killing yourself. The best fest in the UK in my opinion.

From RMW:

Sorry we're so late in making tickets available this year. For those of you who don't know, its because the new licensing laws in Scotland have raised various grey areas as to what is allowed and what isn't. We've been in discussions with the Licencing Authorities and whilst they've not given us anything in black & white, they have confirmed that all is ok. The only area of potential problem was the two-day ticket at a reduced price. As such, if you want to come both days, we're afraid its two separate day tickets. However we hope that you think it's still good value. Otherwise, The Half Time Orange will be back, there will be some of the greatest malts on show and pricing remains the same yet again!

Just a little tip for you whiskycubed people to give you a head start against the unwashed masses. We are having a few problems with Firefox and Chrome browsers so avoid this when putting your order through. Internet Explorer and the other usual suspects work fine.

I know. We actually got a pizza in as we sat and watched the orders come in. I hadn't even finished a slice before they all went.
For the record, the Sunday is always the far nicer day if you ask me.
