Distillers Edition, Amoroso Cask, 45.8% - Talisker

Tasted: 08/04/2009
Colour: Deep Amber
Nose: Very fruity, apples, pears, dried fruits, subdued peat, slight carbolic, marzipan.
Palate: Sweet, fruity, plums, apricots, underlying smoke and emergent pepper
Finish: Long peppery finish, tempered with injections of crystallised fruits
Comment: Loads of juicy fruit, but a sweet tooth required for this one.

I stumbled across a Talisker three pack of 20cl bottles: 10yr, '92 Distiller's Edition, and 18yr. I am really excited about tasting these whiskies, as Talisker is a real crowd favorite.

Talisker 1992 Distiller's Edition is bottled at 45.8% ABV. It is double matured in traditional bourbon oak and amoroso sherry casks for finishing.

Nose: Wow. This is really delicious. Sweet fruitiness comes out mixed together with a touch of sea salt and smoke. The nose is very reminiscent of Highland Park 18yr. This is truly fantastic. Sweet smoke, indeed! Caramel and toffee, ripe berry fruits and smoked chocolate strawberries.

Palate: Wow! Intense pepper on top of a fruity base. Not too sweet, but very good. This is obviously a sherried whisky, bringing a host of delicious notes of ripe fruits.

Finish: Long finish, with lots of pepper spiciness, some smoke, and sweet floral notes. Not quite as much fruit on the finish. A touch of tanginess comes out in the end.

This is a delicious whisky, full of pepper and sea salt, with a sumptuous layer of sweet, ripe fruit! This is really incredible. It is a crying shame that this whisky is not a standard offering from Talisker, as this should be available in stores EVERYWHERE!
