Saturday: Partagas Serie P No 2 with a few drams of Lagavulin 16. Oddly enough, a few weeks prior I had the Partagas Series D No 4 with the Laga and it seemed a better pairing.

Sunday: Hoyo de Monterrey Regalos Edicion Limitada 2007 with some Ardbeg Uigeadail. Nice match.

An Anejo #46 (corona size) with Dragon Sout (Jamaican). Pretty good pairing.

Followed by Illusione MK and Van Rynn 10yr Brandy (South African). Next time I will need something heavier for this stick.

Last weekend I picked up a couple of Rocky Patel's Vintage 1990 cigars for after dinner smoke. A buddy of mine and I enjoyed them immensely. I would have bought more, but they only had two left.

I've just finished another pack of mini Montechristos, but I have an Upmann Junior I have been keeping for a wee while that I will hopefully try tonight.

Rocky Patel's 1992 yesterday evening. I wanted to compare it with 1990. Very good cigar, but so far I like the 1990 vintage better.

Last night I treated myself to a Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2. I had bought one earlier in the day as part of Ralfy's leaving gift from Glasgow's Whisky Club (to go with his Sazerac Rye 18yo) and decided to pick one up for myself later on too. It was thoroughly enjoyed in the beer garden of the Bon Accord! A nice, light, smooth smoke. I think the robusto is my perfect size.

The shop I bought them from said they stock them purely because Billy Connolly buys them there.

I love Hoyos - always have, always will!!!

Tonight a Rocky Patel 1990 with Fuller's London Porter. The stick started off with some sweetness (almost like a candy bar) and bled to the classic maduro flavours (earthy). Nice transition...

I don't smoke, but if I did, it'd probably be Cuban. I don't even know if cuban ones are good, but supposingly if you get caught smoking one, people think you have a serious status of wealth for something, lol. :P

Carlos Torano Novento with the last of my Van Rynn 10yr Brandy. Will have to try this stick again. Finished the stick and it seemed nice but I'm not sure why...

Smoking Patel Bros right now for the first time. I have to say it goes very well with Laphroaig 18. RP has been one of my favorite cigars lately.

Do Stouts or dark beers go best with cigars? How about a normal IPA or a lager?

Ales: A rather popular choice from what I've heard. I tend to drink mostly ale from Innis & Gunn so I haven't tried many with cigars.

IPA: Cuts through the smoke to refresh one's palate. A bit more uncertain regarding effective pairings (can be hit or miss).

Stouts/Porters: Tend to combine well especially with maduro wrapper cigars (which have earthy notes).

Lagers: Will be overwelmed by all but the lightest cigars IMHO

A Don Lino Africa Gigante with Whyte & MacKay 13yr. Great pairing. The caramel notes of the cigar melded well with the sherry notes from the whisky!

Rocky Patel Renaissance. Rocky came to KC a couple of days ago. It was a great honor to meet him and learn more about his line of cigars and the production process.

Padilla '68 Oscuro Salomon 2009 LE. Burn line went nuts an affected the draw all the time.

Rocky Patel Honduran Classic Toro: Nice stick. I really do seem to like RPs. This one wasn't special in any way but it was a nice smoke. Paired well wih Whyte & MacKay 13yr...

Frodo, Renaissance is a good smoke in my book. Pretty much as described http://www.rockypatelrenaissance.com/

I went out to have a Rocky Patel 1961 torpedo and had to stop after fifteen minutes. It is a very good cigar, but I am coming down with something deadly in my throat and could not really taste it. Earlier today I picked up a couple of Avo, Fuente, and some other stuff. My next goal is to further explore Padron lineup.

Yeah, Fuente and Padron are considered the best of the smaller lines by many cigar enthusiests. I don't think you can go wrong with either of those...
