On Tuesday night Glasgow's Whisky Club had our final club night of the year and made that our St Andrew's night. The Dallas Dhu we had for it was stunning. I would love a wee dram of that right now!

Well now, I was going by Google, whose banner says it's St Andrews day today. And I thought I'd missed it - so there you go!

Well, have a great day tomorrow!

I was considering trying to hold a St. Andrew's Day event in the pub this evening, but as it's Sunday and NFL day, we are always full of Americans wanting their 'football' and don't really have a chance to hold a good old Scottish evening at the same time.

Here's tae us, wha's like us?
Damn few............. an' they're aw deed!

Seems strange to be starting to celebrate something that's never really been in the (Scottish) public consciousness much.
Still - a day off tomorrow. Time to amass the clans (if we can get them out of the pub) and move south. We'll start with Berwick and Carlisle and see where we go from there
Image
And we may take a glass together, the whisky makes it all so clear
It fires our dulled imaginations
And I feel so near, so near

I guess that'll depend on whether or not the pubs are open in Berwick and Carlisle. ;)

What force or guile could not subdue
    Thro' many warlike ages
Is wrought now by a coward few
    For hireling traitor's wages.
The English steel we could disdain,
    Secure in valour's station;
But English gold has been our bane --
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!

Seems strange to be starting to celebrate something that's never really been in the (Scottish) public consciousness much.
Still - a day off tomorrow.

If this is to be an ongoing thing, couldn't we change patron saint and have one with a warmer feast day?

Having been to both Berwick and Carlisle, I can't see why we're supposed to want them so much.

Good heavens, no! The Scottish national day should be the dreariest day on the calendar. Perfectly appropriate that the initials of St Andrew's Day spell SAD.
