Depends on your birth year, of course. Starting with vintage 2007, Kilchoman is affordable, if you get it in retail....
What's your birth year, if I may ask?

I'm pretty sure he's older than 3 yrs

2 Glen Keith 10 that are collecting dust in a local store (to have some stock of an old style, underappreciated middle of the road dram)

North of Scotland 1963-1999 46.8% Scott's Selection, if I can convince the shop owner he won't sell it for another decade unless he is willing to drop the price. Anyone knows this one??

Please precise them Glen Keiths a bit further as I have seen some recently gathering dust in a local shop and I might be tempted purchasing some of them. I have tasted one Glen Keith once in a bar which was rather good but I don't remember too much...

The regular (only) OB 10 yo that was around for a couple of years from the mid 90s till ???. Glen Keith closed in 1999. The distillery didn't seem to get much attention, although the old indie bottlings seem to be very good. I like the 10 yo, but I wouldn't say drinking it is a world changing experience.

Park Avenue believes it already is a collectors item and has it for $100 on the shelf. The forlorn bottles in local liquor stores are more likely tagged $40-55.

I agree. It is decent enough drinking malt but nothing special. I would have thought collectors might be interested in those bottles now though.

If you are from before the mid 50s, there is little hope. If your from the late 50s to late 60s, G&M vintage Glen Grant, Glenburgie and Strathisla bottlings are mostly very good and relatively affordable

I agree that G&M are the affordable route for this and there are readily available bottles back to the mid-40s, or with some shopping around or a visit to the auction, back to the late 30s. Not that I think they are needed in this case.

Sorry don't know that actual bottle - but got the dregs of a 1964/2007 in Dufftown recently. Very nice grain whisky :P

I would recommend you buy it - if the price isn't too outrageous ;)

i know you've all been terribly worried about the status of this delivery. i'm afraid the tracking has taken a slightly worrying turn:

25-10-2010 01:24 Delivery Agent - UNITED STATES AMERICA Parcel redirected

i hope this translates to "parcel received by american delivery agent who will now send it to you"

25-10-2010 11:25 Delivery Agent - UNITED STATES AMERICA Parcel delivered
25-10-2010 06:10 Delivery Agent - UNITED STATES AMERICA Arrived at delivery depot

the box was packed very impressively, and everything was intact--including the tasting glasses. indeed the profusion of packing peanuts made it difficult to find the bottles (especially the tiny nikka bottle)!

the bad news, of course, is that i will now be placing regular orders.

Excellent. I also think that TWE is good (although the tracking messages are almost always confusing). Most of my recent purchases were from them.

interestingly (or perhaps not), the customs declaration only said "gift" under the description of contents.

I just wondered if anyone here had experience shipping decanters and collectible bottles of ("No-commercial" value of course) from the TWE to Canada or if not as I have relatives down south possibly Oregon state ???

Where in Canada? Ontario has absolute LCBO monopoly although I received shipments from "friends" in other provinces. Officially no alcoholic beverages can be shipped to Ontario so TWE will not do it. You can have it shipped to some States and have it brought back (1.1l at a time :-) )

Yeah I just checked out the TWE and found that they will not ship to Canada... I suppose I could do the ship to USA thing and pick up later...

BTW if you go down to the states with another person (for 48 hours of course) you can bring back 1.1L ea which is pretty much 3x 750Ml bottles... This summer after a camping trip south with the family, I ended up with Ardbeg ANB, Ugie and a Caol Ila 12 in the cupboard even though my wife type doesn't like scotch she was willing to use her allotment to bring back 1/2 of my score of spirits (they have to be good for something)....
