Heads-up, Bulleit RYE coming out

John Valuk is dead, he fell on his head. But perhaps John Parker will get through with our message to Buckaroo Banzai.

Has anyone tried this yet? I'm thinking of picking up a bottle but I'm not normally a rye fanatic so wondering what you all think....

I heard somewhere (don't remember who/where) that it is not typical strong rye flavors - has cherry, vanilla, spice but not smash-in-your-face rye... I heard it's good neat - but gets a bit lost as a mixer. I've not developed a love for strong rye flavor so I might like it.... Maybe your relatives find it "boring" because they like strong rye flavor?

I need to get a bottle; I'm really curious.

If it comes out will it be the first openly gay rye?

It's on the slow boat i reckon. Bored of waiting. Things do move slowly in the whisky world.
I've spent a lot of money on whisky and women, the rest i squandered

Could be fun to H2H with Templeton, both should be made at LDI

I got aware of this video last week

So, I bought the Bulleit Rye last night & had a glass.... I'm not a huge fan of rye but this just poofed - fast finish! There were flavors of orange peel, maraschino cherries, spicy oak & Angostura bitters at the end which was pleasant. It opened up w/ a very little bit of water. This dram will drown quickly so don't add much water. I think it would disappear in a mixed drink. It was good but even I would prefer a bit more oomph of rye than this had to offer. Maybe it's just very young - there is no age statement.

I think of this as a starter rye - time to move up to a more serious version. But, if you are not a big fan of strong oak/rye flavors; this may be the rye for you. I think this easy sipping style may turn more people on to rye in general - it has me interested! And for only $19.99, was worth the money.

I would expect more-in-your-face rye flavor as their bourbon has one of the highest percentages of rye in the mash.

I think my favorite rye without paying huge amounts is Russell's Reserve.

I will have to get the new Bulleit Rye.

I agree - I was expecting more from the Bulleit. Funny you should mention the Russell's Reserve - I'm now on a Rye kick & picked up a bottle of R.R. 6yo last weekend (same price $19.99)- I really like it! Much more rye/interesting flavors/nose/longer finish than the Bulleit (although I have the Bulleit to thank for getting me on Rye). Next I'm going to try the Sazerac - probably the NAS which I hear is a 6/8 yo.... As the weather heats up I find I'm more into Bourbon & Rye - want something more spicy than Scotch.
