Nant Distillery, Tasmania

Postby Malt-Teaser » 08 Dec 2010, 13:09

I get many e-mails, news articles and marketing releases through the Emporium but a couple of days ago I received a question by mail asking if I knew of Nant Distillery, Tasmania.

I followed this up via google and discovered a quite new distillery down under which I'd never heard of. It's a small operation on a large private estate and JM, apparently, awarded 91.5 points to one of their recent offerings in his bible.

I decided it well worth an article and even an interview with the owner:

But, as I haven't tried or even seen any of their bottlings as yet, has anyone else?
Perhaps our own members down under?

Two of the Kingsbarns guys were involved in setting it up: Bill Lark and Greg Ramsay.

I have seen it but it is hideously expensive. Australian whiskies typically pitch in at over $100 for small bottles. Nant is, I think, $350+ for a 50cl bottle.

Hi There,

We at LMDW were importers of Nant for a while (I think we stopped because there wasn't enought stock), and still have a good selection:

i have a double malt unpeated bottle. Unfortunately i havent yet opened it...

I could post a pic..

As far as reputation goes, the Nant has been around for a couple of years, and released a very small amount of whisky but is relatively quiet on the Australian Whisky scene. It hasnt attempted to compete with the likes of Lark or sullivans Cove.
