Recommendations for Belgian beers wanted

Postby olikli » 27 Aug 2011, 17:16

I've come across a pretty decently stocked German online beer retailer, and feeling adventurous I'd like broaden my horizon regarding Belgian beers. My favourite are the trappist style beers like Chimay or Westmalle, but I'm open to any suggestions. So far I haven't found a gueze or kriek that really hit the spot for me, but maybe there are some out there worth trying.

Belgina Wit Beers are a different style than german ones, I really like Namur de Blanche
Trappist Beers, my favourite is Rochefort 10 and Orval, but they are all good

I also like

Fantome
Super des Fagnes
La Chouffe and Mac Chouffe
Maredsous

I hav also tried a belgian beer with a tartan label, I think it was called Gordons, I thought it was very good

We don't get much Belgian beer in Ontario for comparison, but for a 'dessert' beer I really enjoyed Bellevue Kreik (cherry) :yummy: when it was carried here. I really miss it compared to its' 'replacement', Mort Subite Kreik, which seems much more artificial with its' flavouring.
The wishlist is always growing...

Thanks for the recommendations. I am not such a big fan of wheat beers, so I ordered a selction of dubbles and tripels and some Cantillon gueze.
