Best Liquor Stores in Boston area

Postby TimWhalen » 09 Sep 2011, 02:50

Hey there malt mates, heading out to Boston in a month and I'm looking to find some nice scotch that isn't available in Canada, or at the very least something at a good price. I'll be staying in downtown Boston and was hoping you guys could help me out. As usual I'll be hunting for the Ardbeg Airgh Nam Beist but it is not the only malt on the list. Any recommendations for stores would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry...can't help you there Tim, but I am interested in this thread as I may be going to Boston sometime during the 2012 baseball season (hoping to get tix for a game during the 100th season of Fenway Park).
The wishlist is always growing...

You must, you must, you must go to Federal Wine & Spirits on State Street, close by Quincy Market, and have a blether with Joe Howell. Call them at 617-367-8605 and make sure he will be there. Tell him Mr Tattie Heid sent you (and that I'm really sorry I haven't seen him in ages). Tiny little place, you'll walk in and think you've made a mistake, but it's not for nothing that it's been named a Whisky Magazine Icon of Whisky. You will thank me. You will thank me.

Thank you so much for the information. Is this pretty much the only place I should be looking for a wide selection of scotch?`

Oh by the way, you're too late...this is the 100th season of Fenway Park. Next April is the 100th anniversary of its opening (just days after the sinking of the Titanic). Keep a close eye on when tickets go on sale, because they go fast, although there's always StubHub and such, if you don't mind paying.

there's a couple other places out toward Brookline that have big selections...I'd have to look them up. More what you'd expect, as far as being a large liquor store. But if Federal is the only place you go, you won't be sorry. Joe will talk to you all day, if you have the patience to step aside for the occasionally bizarre parade of local customers (ranging from Beacon Hill socialites to vodka-swigging street folk), and no doubt you'll get your share of samples.

...yes, I meant to write 'anniversary'...I only go for the really hyped events, like anniversaries! ;) StubHub will likely be our source for a game against a crappy team like the A's or Royals where (hopefully) the ticket prices might be slightly lower.

It's a little outside Boston, but I have heard good of this place

http://www.juliosliquors.com/

They have a whiskyclub associated (Loch and Key) and I know a couple or more of their members
