Hi there,

just found this. And I can hardly believe it.

http://www.cumberlandnews.co.uk/25-jobs ... d-1.878365?

Bets on the outcome anyone?

I think he'll do just fine....he knows how to make money & get people interested in visiting/buying. Interesting location too - lots of tourists already.
Don't become a fanboy.....always question, stay skeptical & follow the money.

Thanks.

I dont see any mention of whisky making at copper house. Their pot still looks like its too small for whisky (swa rule)

I may give the gin a shot.

I believe it's a pot still/column still hybrid type of thing.

Interestingly, the spirit is being matured in new oak casks, both American and European. It becomes whisky in around 30months time

Its worth remembering that Paul Currie has previously tried (and failed) to open a distillery in Staveley in Cumbria. At the time, this got a lot of coverage in the local press as the local business development fund was £89,000 out of pocket.

I'd certainly be wary of getting involved in this project given his track record, but it seems people have short memories.

Looks like a pot still to me--pretty similar to Holstein stills I've seen in several multi-purpose distilleries.

Funny I was in the lakes this summer thinking it was the perfect place for a disillery.Course these ventures are dodgy but it would be great if it works out.

Two and a half months on and nothing whatsoever is happening on site, the place is still as rundown and overgrown as it ever was (I live local and drive past regularly, the farm is right on the public road so any progress, or lack of, is visible to all). I notice on the website that they are trying to drum up a bit of extra cash by offering exclusive bottlings to founders club members for £595, makes you wonder if the cash is actually available for the project.

They've also used a bit of poetic licence with regards to the water source; the website mentions Sprinkling Tarn which is indeed the initial source of the River Derwent, trouble is this is 15 miles away from the site and the actual source of the water to be used is the River Derwent a few hundred meters downstream of its outflow from Bassenthwaite Lake. The lake has had well publicised water quality problems over the past few years with several instances of algal blooms, work is currently ongoing to improve matters. Amongst other things the sewage treatment works at Keswick discharges its treated effluent into the lake, most of the locals are aware of this and I wonder if this will have any impact on potential sales if production actually starts?

I don't think it'll ever get off the ground given the lack of pure liquid cash...

I'm confused. What is the issue with Paul Currie and his family? I thought (perhaps wrongly) that they made a cracking job of Arran.

Hi there,

the name Currie has been mentioned in connection with several "new" distillery projects over the last years that were announced with more or less press covering and nothing ever came of them.

Mr Paul Currie has nothing to do with it more his sons and one of those more that the other it seems.
