I was wondering exactly where the whipped cream was applied, but didn't want to ask.

Don't get me wrong, I love the excellent food here in Bayern, but I've been over in N.Wales for the last few days and had some excellent food. A variety of country Inns have produced excellent fayre and yesterday evening was a kind of crowning glory when my selection included home-made steak and mushroom pie followed by sticky toffee pudding served with fresh cream!

Real chips with carrots, leak, green cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower accmpanied (the main dish, not the sticky toffee pudding!)

:yummy:

A hearty veg broth made with soya beans, lentils, kale, onion, courgette, tomatoes, mushrooms, and celery. With herbs and simple spice. It was delicious.

Nothing fancy, a rustic veg stew with a fat slab of 'still warm' homemade spelt bread with plenty of butter. 8-)

Tourtière, a meat pie purchased from the local grocery but produced in Québec by actual Franco-Canuckistanis (or so I presume). Good stuff. For authenticity, I put a wee drop of maple syrup on it.

Christmas dinner was leg of New Zealand lamb, which the chef (c'est moi) left in the oven a wee bit too long...a little dry, but tasty. Roast potatoes, peas, and haggis--a canned haggis I found in a shop in New York City. It was actually quite good. The same shop provided a Christmas pudding, but we were too stuffed to bother with it--maybe tonight. Dinner complemented by an inexpensive Columbia valley (Washington state) merlot, and followed by Aberlour hand-filled ex-sherry, and some Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale.

We breakfasted on bagels topped with Copper River (Alaska) smoked salmon, sent along by the illustrious Mr Ron Thomson, washed down with coffee from Stumptown Roasters (Portland, Oregon), provided by my niece. My brother brought her, her husband Andrew, and her sister (aka my other niece) for a visit with me and me dear old mum on Friday. The subject of legendary photos of college-age Mr Tattie Heid and his brother with Santa Claus came up; a box was found, inside a trove of old family photos, enough to embarrass everyone present except Andrew. A splendid time was had by all.

Other niece's husband (also Andrew) spent yesterday in the hospital after a kidney stone attack. Merry Christmas!

My mother's cleaning lady reported today that she brought her father home from the nursing home for Christmas dinner yesterday. His appetite had not been good, so everyone was pleasantly surprised when he chowed down. Dessert was his favorite, cherry pie, and he ate two pieces. They took him back to the nursing home, and a few hours later, he died. I suppose he didn't do himself any good by stuffing himself, but damn...two pieces of pie, and out. Well done, old man.
