Latest Sainsbury's

Postby Jimmy321 » 05 Nov 2011, 16:04

May as well have a Sainsbury's containment thread.

Glasgow, Darnley

Picked up a Glenmorangie Nectar D'or for £25.00
Few other reduced but this was the best bargain and I was in to much of a rush to take note of the others but I think Talisker 10 was the same price.
If I had all the money I've spent on whisky, I'd spend it on whisky.

I noticed they had Chivas Regal 12 for £14, which makes it almost worth buying.

Dammit Jimmy you made me look ;)

You're right the Nectar D'or is the best deal. I felt compelled to buy three.

May as well take it whilst is going, I would imagine that they make little money on these. Should have grabbed another for my dads christmas pressie if the deals still on on Monday that's what he's getting.

Oh bother, I was in Sainsbury's yesterday and I didn't traipse down the whisky aisle (and I usually do) :(

.... now let me see... what groceries have I suddenly run out of?
I must remember to forget....

Anyone opened this new batch?
The only notes I can find, in some dubious book named the 'bible'.... cough, cough, ahem.... suggests a previous batch was badly sulphured.
Anyone?

Let me know if you can't find any Paul and I'll look for some more out here.

I wasn't planning to open one tonight, but you forced me :?

Glenmo Nectar D'Or 15yo 46%

Nose: Barley sugar with tinned apricots, peaches and fresh spearmint. Maybe some pencil eraser.
Palate: Soft fruits with a rubbery texture and cinammon sugar.
Finish: Custard and tinned peaches, pleasantly prickly and mouth-watering.
Comment: Hmm. There is something there that could easily be interpreted as sulphur but I have a feeling that it will settle down once the bottle has had some air. I'll need to come back to this, but I suspect it is going to develop into something really nice.

Cheers Willie, good man

As you say, hopefully it will open up well.

I'm passing by the Craigleith store today so will pop in there for a look-see, as it's certainly an uber-bargain worthy of stocking up and I intend to use at least one for an xmas gift.

It certainly is if you like Talisker like many people do. Personally I'm not keen on Talisker although it's only the 10yo that I have tried to be fair.

This time of year is very good for supermarket bargains. Don't forget to check out Waitrose too as they have the widest range.

Talisker 10 is a big big favourite (although not one of mine) and is one of many benchmark standards in whisky talk. So yes, if you haven't had it before you should get one while it's on offer - everyone gets familiar with this bottling at some stage.

YES! :) As mentioned it is a 'benchmark' whisky that, even if you ultimately don't like the profile, brings something quite different to the table. I would love Tali 10 to go on special here in Ontario...instead, the recently bumped the full size (750 mL) bottle to CAN$75 from $70 about a month ago. A 200 mL mini-bottle only sets you back CAN$22 though.
The wishlist is always growing...

Picked up the last Talisker 10 on the shelf at Breahead Glasgow at lunch time. :)

These supermarket deals of late have been fantastic.

Glenfiddich Rich Oak is down to £29, which is a decent price for a very good whisky. I still had the £2 off voucher they were dishing out a while back, so it made a very reasonable purchase.
