whisky tint 12

Postby kallaskander » 18 Nov 2011, 12:50

Hi there,

today I had a Macallan Fine Oak 21 and a Fine Oak 25 in wooden boxes in hands.

On the labels I noticed that the 21 was marked "whisky tint 12" the 25 with "whisky tint 15".

Indeed the 25yo is darker.

I tried to find a scale somewhere - on the Macallan homepage as well - to learn more about what the tint value stands for or is supposed to tell me.

Has somebody here progressed further in this quest?

Greetings

I have seen the European Brewery Convention scale being used for whisky, perhaps this is the same.

The first link is a cracking read if nothing else.
