Bruichladdich's Jim McEwan in Toronto

Bruichladdich's Jim McEwan in Toronto

Postby portwood » 25 Nov 2011, 14:37

Summerhill location:

Thursday, February 23 | 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
FOR THE SINGLE MALT LOVER! | $40
Master distiller Jim McEwan leads a vertical scotch nosing showcasing Bruichladdich (see the distillery feature in the LCBO's 2010 Whisky magazine). This interactive event includes samples, visuals and aromatics accompanied by a complementary light food element. Seating is limited, so be sure to sign up early.

Will this event serve as the launch of the new "Ten" in Canada/Ontario?

I'm planning to attend. Any others?

A nosing? Do you not get to actually drink anything? Well, whatever, it'll be entertaining, and you may even learn a few curse words in Gaelic.

Might that listing be for bottles of Ten that will be available at the event?

So far all I've seen/heard is this twitter post:
Bruichladdich Whisky @Laddie1881
Jim off to Ontario for presentations and tastings for the LCBO - including The Botanist Gin.

I replied asking what was on the agenda - no response. The "Ten" may be included in the "presentations and tastings" but it has not been listed :(

DBK and I have already sampled the Laddie Ten, thanks to my friends in NY!

A lot more maritime than expected, fruity, and even subtly peaty to add citrus lemony notes in the finish. Nicely spiced, salty, peppery, and well balanced on the palate. They'll price it probably at the 80$ price point, but I don't feel that's a fair price. I paid 48$ and I really don't feel that 80$ is fair, I can purchase many other malts that are better or cask strength for that price point.

A great dram, don't get me wrong, but there isn't even a rarity factor to push the price up...have to wait and see.

They better not go higher than $70!
- it was listed in Calgary (KWM) for $60+GST, and IIRC, $70 in BC

I will be pleasantly surprised if it is at 70$...that, I would consider a fair price for this whisky.

I DO like the malt, I just don't want to be fleeced at the till!

Thanks for the invite. Gesh! :D Hopefully I'll see you guys at SofT.

I hope we'll be tasting something with a little more clout than The Botanist because as good a gin as it is, its not exactly a show stopper you'd expect to headline a trip across the Atlantic.

If you're in Kingston, your welcome to come over this Friday night...more Laddie, and other goodies!

I'll probably go a bit early to get the taste buds ready with a sample or two from the tasting bar. :iwbrnt:

Sampled:
Organic multivintage (mid coul, coulmore, & mains of tullibardine farms)
Classic Laddie '01
16yo bourbon cask
21yo black art
Port Charlotte an turas mor

NO Ten,
When asked when it would be available in Ontario, one of the product consultants whispered like it was some kind of state secret "period 8". That means Oct-Nov (likely in the vintages whisky release).
'nuff said.
